<p>The term Emcee is also referred to as M.C. or Master of Ceremonies. They will traditionally handle the formal activities throughout an event. Think of them as your personal spokesperson for the evening. The only problem is that they are representing (2) sides of the families. It is important for your wedding emcee to have your best interests at heart. What we did was create a list of 4 crucial things to look for when interviewing companies. It is better to find out before hand if the DJ company you are considering will be able to deliver on your big day.1.) Gotta be Engaging</p>

<p>One of the most important factors with controlling the flow of announcements is awareness. Your crowd has to understand what is going to happen and why. Very easy right? In a social environment, most people will have a shorter attention span, so it is easier said than done. Once you command the attention of the room, it is the emcees role to keep them focused on the next activity.</p>

<p>One of the easiest ways an emcee can lose your audience is by lack of creativity with announcements. A majority of emcees will say Excuse me ladies and gentlemen can I please have your attention Thank you Good evening ladies and gentlemen. To me, you are already sounding like a robot, why would I listen to the next sentence you have to say? Another common mistake most emcees make at a wedding reception is:</p>

Instead of using the word with repeatedly, they should have thrown in the phrases and, escorted by, and accompanied by.2.) Never Overbearing</p>

<p>Weve all heard of that guy that makes guests do what they dont want to do. There is a difference between being tactful and just downright annoying. Dont be that guy better yet, dont hire that guy! It is the emcees job to make your guests feel comfortable, so the party develops spontaneously.</p>

<p>Most importantly, they should never put the center of attention on themselves. It should always be redirected back at the guests of honor. What we will normally tell our clients is, We are your directors and you are our actors. We are going to write a script that you feel comfortable with and put you on stage at the appropriate times. We handle all your details behind the scenes, so you dont have to.3.) Always Experienced</p>

<p>The one thing we can predict with people is that they will be unpredictable. This is why it is important for your wedding emcee to have many weddings under their belt. You might have a funny moment happen where they will only have an 8 second gap to fill it with a witty off the cuff remark. They might have to restructure the announcements last minute due to changes in the itinerary. Experience and training trump all when it comes to wedding emcee skills.4.) Extremely Well Polished</p>

<p>An excellent wedding emcee will have a sharp personality. One of the biggest roles that influence their character is their stage presence. This refers to how guests perceive them while they are on the stage. Do they sit down while they are working? Are they fidgety? Are they texting on their phone? Are they selective with their body language? Hows their posture? Are they smiling? Just some FYI, stage presence should go beyond the stage. While your emcee is working your event, they should have stage presence in the back of their mind constantly. This includes when they walk around the room, if they grab a glass of water, even if they partake in the meal.</p>

<p>The most obvious thing about an excellent wedding emcee is how they sound. You dont want somebody talking that sounds like your co-worker or even worse an angry family member. There will always be those guys that want to sound like an NBA announcer, but it is better to hear them at a Pistons game than the introduction of your first dance. To sum everything up, an excellent wedding emcees attitude should convey a friendly yet assertive warmth and trust.

<p>1. Be Sure To Meet Up With ClientsThis is absolutely necessary. Meetings with your clients allow you to discuss in detail the flow of the reception. You should know everything there is to know about the wedding reception such as the times for the meal, speech, cake cutting and so on.</p>

<p>You should also talk about the music you'll be playing during the event. Find out what kind of music the bride and groom would want to be played and their favorite artistes. Ask them how many guests are expected to come and their age groups so you can prepare the music to cater to everyone.</p>

<p>2. Visit The Event VenueMake sure you visit before the actual reception. It may seem like a simple thing, but as a wedding DJ you should know the venue well before the big day. Find out where is the parking area, where you can and can't go as well as at what time can you enter the hall to set up your equipment. You should be able to find out everything about the venue from the event manager.</p>

<p>Look around the reception hall and take note of its size, the location of the power sockets and the lighting. Also find out how much space will be given to you to set up your equipment and DJ table. Many venues require that you have the right paperwork ready to be able to set up your equipment and perform there. So make sure you have everything ready before you head to the reception hall.</p>

<p>As a wedding DJ, your job only ends after the wedding reception ends and all the guests have gone home. So make sure you know everything you need to know about the event, the venue, and your clients' preferences. Pioneer sets new trends in the world of DJ - Entertainment - Music

<p>Pioneer Pro DJ is a world-wide renowned brand. Ever since CDs surpassed vinyl in the 1990s the brand has been a world leader in CDJ players amongst other DJ equipment. </p>

<p>Apart from being industry leaders, Pioneer sponsors young talent through their Pioneer DJ competitions.</p>

<p>We spoke to Pioneers glitzy addition to the team, Monica Cook (aka DJ Playmate), about her career as a Pioneer DJ. She has been a Pioneer DJ since 2009 and is one to watch out for with addictive beats and mixes of dirty, funky and rocking house that will knock your socks off.</p>

<p>How did you come up with your DJ name?It inspired by a Wheels & Doll Baby shirt I found while rummaging through my wardrobe one day. People remember it; its a playful name with a bit of sexiness about it. Thats how I like to portray myself, not just as an artist but my personality as well.</p>

<p>How long have you been a Pioneer DJ for?Im into my second year now as an ambassador for the brand.</p>

<p>How did you become a Pioneer DJ?Initially it was through winning the Pioneer DJ Search Competition in 2009, where as part of the competition winnings I become an Ambassador for twelve months. However after the twelve months ended I was invited to continue as an ambassador on my on merits of success as a DJ. </p>

<p>Was it competitive? Competitive indeed! It was a tough competition but it was also exhilarating. From what I recall there were over three hundred DJs nationally that entered into the search. The competition is run in two stages: the first was through peer voting to determine the top ten mixes, then the second stage was judged by a number of other respected industry heads including Grant Smilie and Mark James.</p>

<p>What do you have to do as a Pioneer DJ?The great thing about being a Pioneer DJ is that all you have to do is be your own artistic self, which is different from your average career. </p>

<p>What are your duties as Pioneer DJ?My main duty is to focus on your passion, which is the music, and inspire others by your drive and talent. My main goal whenever Im playing a gig is to get people moving and dancing regardless of whether theyre straight or drunk.</p>

<p>What are some of the perks of the job?The opportunity to use some of the best DJ technology in the world. I see it as an honour and a perk that Pioneer value me as an artist and that I am included as part of the Pioneer Dj family.</p>

<p>What is the first Pioneer product you had to use?I was fortunate enough to be one of the first in Australia to let loose on the CDJ 2000s when they were released, which was awesome.</p>

<p>Had you been using Pioneer products before becoming a Pioneer DJ? Which?Most definitely. As a professional DJ you use Pioneer equipment on a regular basis, being that it is the professional standard in clubs and venues. I also have Pioneer gear in my home studio for practice and house jamming purposes.</p>

<p>How long are you planning on staying with Pioneer? Are there other projects coming up for you?Well my master plan is to stay with Pioneer for a LONG time. I think when that day does come to an end and I depart it will be due to my loss of the passion. So pretty much until my death bed. </p>

<p>[laughter]</p>

<p>Have you been limited in any way by tying yourself to Pioneer products only?Not at all. Pioneer understand that their technology alone doesnt make a DJ. As a brand Pioneer creates products that work together with other leading DJ technology to maximise the potential of combining various DJ tools within a performance, so limitations to Pioneer only have never been an issue.</p>

<p>Do you enjoy the job?I LOVE MY JOB!! Music was my sea change from the corporate world of advertising and I tell no lie when I say to follow your dream, because you will never look back or feel like you are working another day in your life.</p>

<p>Do you find the industry male dominated? Does this impact your career as a female DJ?Regardless of the industry as a female your success at times is judged purely by your looks and sex appeal, which can be frustrating. Although I take pride in my appearance and how I present myself, however this is not the motivation for making music. I just love the effect a great set can have on an audience, music is a powerful tool when combined in the right way and that is my focus for my audience, but like in any career you are not only judged by your skill but also how you present yourself and I take pride in both. </p>

<p>What advice would you give to up and coming female DJs?Make the most of your skill, and work hard to achieve what you love to create. When you pursue your passion, success will follow. </p>

<p>What are your career plans for the near future?Im now taking the steps of moving into the production side of music and getting creative in the studio. Im excited about moving forward into this domain, with the hope and confidence of my audience hearing some rocking tracks from DJ Playmate in 2011.</p>

<p>I like the fact about yours that it goes very 1930s and then it goes from that extreme to something really hip-hop?</p>

<p>It wasnt purposely like Im, gonna try and play every thing, it was more just like I wanted it to represent all the different types of music that influenced me and that I play when Im out and it is a lot of different types of music, but the idea was to not to try and make that not sound too random and there is some kind of order to it, like its not just for no reason.</p>

<p>Well it goes very well but it is very eclectic, its a journey like the story of your life.</p>

<p>Exactly! Story of my life, I like that?</p>

<p>Your working with a lot of people recently, I know you did some stuff with Dan Greenpeace who has actually got a show on Pyro Radio and so how did that come about?</p>

<p>I used to live with him actually, weve always done music together like way back since I was about 17 or something, yea we did a whole bunch of mix tapes together and we DJ together and so hes like my natural DJ partner.</p>

<p>You do come from the mix tape Vinyl kind of background?</p>

<p>I come from a hip hop background really, the whole of the 90s I would just listen to nothing but straight hip hop, hip hop, hip hop. If it wasnt rap music I didnt wanna know at all. Its only been the last few years that I have just discovered, oh wow, there is all these other kinds of music that I just dont know anything about, so yea its been kind of an exiting few years for me in music.</p>

<p>Yea its good to open up to that, but I mean because you do come from that mix tape vinyl back ground do you still deal with that kind of thing or have you moved more into technology of whats going on at the moment?</p>

<p>Both like, I think what ever I do I will always make mix CDs, I started off before I was a professional DJ I was making mix CDs for myself and then I was making mix CDs for mates and every thing, Ill always do that, I do that for myself anyway, I always just press play and record and make a mix its just what I naturally do always.</p>

<p>So you do the VJ thing which goes with the mixing, how does that work, do you use some kind of software which fires off the visuals while you mix or how does that work, cos I dont know about that kind of thing?</p>

<p>So do you know what CD Js are?</p>

<p>Yes just about</p>

<p>Theres them but you put DVDs in them instead, so you can scratch with DVDs and mix with DVDs, so thats what I use, as soon as that technology came out I was like, this is something that is defiantly relevant to me because before that existed I was always putting samples from movies, like audio samples in my mixes, always using bits of TV programs and stuff like that so now I can do that with the videos as well so its like, ok Im jumping on this its right up my street.</p>

<p>Wicked yea it goes very well, it makes a big difference when youve got all the visuals going with it. Youve also got a single coming out as well havent you?</p>

<p>I had two singles out from my last album the last one was with the Jungle Brothers it is called Playing Around, but now Im recording tracks for a new album, so yea the next single wont be till thats ready its about half done at the moment. Fabric mix is out in April, the next thing to come out will be another Cut n Paste mix cd that will be later in the year and then my second album, yea busy year!

Shpongle live to play - Entertainment - Music

<p>Let's get Shpongled</p>

<p>Shpongle are a British based electronic ambient band that features the duo of psychedelic trance music guru Simon Posford and DJ,Producer Raja Ram. The group also relies on the input of external artists to provide accompanying sounds. Their music is best described as psychedelic ambient and is often grouped into niche electronic music genres such as psychill, psybient and psyamb. </p>

<p>The early days</p>

<p>Simon Posford's musical career began some years before Shpongle as a young lad, when he had the choice of either studying plants at Oxford Uni, or jumping feet first into a job at Virgin studios. Going to Virgin was a no brainer, especially as it offered the opportunity to learn the ropes alongside such legends as Spike Stent. For a while, Simon rotated round the various Virgin studios but the life of making tea and putting up with artists egos couldn't go on indefinitely. The breaking point came when working with the UK indies band James, who had recently finished an extensive tour but had not yet abandoned tour mentality. It was, Posford recalls, an absolute nightmare.</p>

<p>Stent suggested to Simon that he should look up Martin Glover at Butterfly Studios. It was here that Simon found the freedom to work on his own ideas. He quickly produced a series of groundbreaking goa trance singles culminating in the now classic album "Twisted" under his trance moniker "Hallucinogen". At this time Raja Ram had been involved in a group called the "Infinity Project" which Simon also worked on now and then. You could say that the Infinity Project sound was the inspiration for what would later morph into Shpongle. One day, while watching a solar eclipse in India, the two friends decided to see if they could recreate the feeling of what they had just seen in the sky into sound. The outcome was the seminal track "...And the Day Turned Into Night". Shpongle had come into existence.</p>

<p>The Shpongle Sound</p>

<p>To describe the sound of Shpongle is like trying to describe the word Shpongle itself. Some what undefinable. The group describe their sound as a strange hybrid of electronic manipulation and shamanic midgets with frozen digits squeezing the envelope and crawling through the doors of perception. See what I mean ? It's not that easy to explain it to the uninitiated. At its core the sound is full of cascading psychedelic layers of synthesier melodies, wobbling dubish like basslines, echoing mountains of delay, an ocean of effects and samples as well as acoustic instruments such as flutes and tribal drums. The flute work of Raja Ram, a big part of his early musical carrer in the UK Prog/Folk band Quintessence, features heavily on some of their most popular tunes. </p>

<p>Releases </p>

<p>Shpongle has 4 studio albums released so far. Their 1998 debut CD "Are you Shpongled ?" was created in 1995 at a point in time when the psychedelic ambient ( psychill ) genre was still in its infancy and looking for a firmer foothold. ."Are you Shpongled ?" was an instant hit and the duo began touring their new psychedelic ambient sound almost straight away finding they were in much demand on the psychedelic trance and music festival circuit worldwide. This was most likely because of the uniqueness of the sound they had invented. There really was nothing quite like it at the time. A true musical landmark that is still regarded as the best psychill albumn ever created.</p>

<p>Though much in demand the pair had saturated their fan base somewhat and needed to grow their sound to discover a larger listening public. A gamble if you should not want to annoy those who had come to love their debut. With this in mind Shpongle decided for their second album "Tales Of The Inexpressible" in 2001 to include more natural instruments, relying less on the samples and hardware of their successful debut release. The new product was met with mixed reviews. To the new listeners it was an amazing release full of creativity and wonder. To the die hard fans it was seen as a bit of a disappointment. Interesting though, after many a listen these fans began to change their mind and the CD was largely seen on equal par and in some people's mind topping the first album in terms of production quality and imagination.</p>

<p>It would be four years before the release of the third album "Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost" in 2005. The intervening years had seen speculation as to if the group had decided to throw in the towel. The title of the new album also suggested as such. The album saw a return to the heady electronic sounds of "Are you Shpongled?" perhaps as a reaction to some of the negative reviews received from the previous album and its use of acoustic and natural instruments. It also made use of track mixing on each tune so that they flow into each other creating a vast psychedelic mystery trip. It was widely praised in the musical press. Also quite evident in the album was how the tunes had evolved into something that could easily support a live show with full backing band and dancers. </p>

<p>The fourth studio album from Shpongle "ineffable Mysteries From Shpongle Land" was released in 2009 and continued were the third album left off. While still quite brilliantly psychedelic, the music seemed built for a live experience. As such some listeners were a little disappointed with the release. I think the problem was that the psychedelic ambient music scene was now full with Shpongle like artists who had spent the last 10 years listening to Shpongle, trying to emulate their unique sounds. Personally I found it to be my favorite release since their debut. The album was ranked at #7 on Sputnik's Best Of 2009 list and #1 on the PsyAmb list.</p>

<p>Simon has also mentioned that the group are working on a fifth album for release in 2012. I would guess this would depend on the Younger Brother schedule and how much recording time they manage to fit into their busy schedules.</p>

<p>One of the things I like of any band is the care given to album cover and inlay design. Shpongle does not disspoint having called on the design skills of Mark Neal ( Dusk Design ) and Storm Thorgeson ( designer of Pink Flyod's "The Dark Side Of The Moon" cover ).</p>

<p>Shpongle Live </p>

<p>Since the beginning the live experience has grown from two guys behind a mixing deck to show of circus like proportions complete with huge speaker systems, lighting, fire breathers and psychedelic dancers. It's not always easy to see them live however as it is quite difficult to organize all the back musicians and dancers in one place at the same time. We are not talking The Rolling Stones here !
