How to Liven Up Your Wedding Reception with a Jazz Band - Entertainment - Music

<p>One of the best things you can do to liven up the atmosphere at your wedding reception is to have a jazz band because its guaranteed to keep guests entertained. Before you hire a live jazz band, you should decide what kind of music you want them to play. Look at the repertoire list of the prospective jazz bands you have in mind. Check out their websites and listen to their sound recordings so you can select a band thats right for you. Ask whether they can accommodate requests from guests and customize their set lists. Compile a list of songs and work closely with the Band Leader to customize the entertainment and prepare a playlist that contains your favourite songs. You should also have a clear idea of when you want the band to perform, for the whole night? Or do you only require a band for cocktail hour because youve hired a DJ for the second half of the evening. Its even better if you have a run sheet with the bands sets and breaks written down, as well as speeches and
formalities. You also need to make sure that your reception venue has enough space for where the band can set up their equipment and instruments. A raised platform on the dancefloor is ideal because it looks impressive and all the guests can get an unobstructed view of the performers.</p>

<p>Jazz musicians are unique among entertainers because they can adapt to suit many different genres and styles, and because they play from memory and not by reading sheet music, they have thousands of songs in their repertoire. This saves money for couples because they can use the same band all through the day so they dont have to hire other musicians for different aspects such as a string quartet for the ceremony, or a DJ. The jazz musicians can do the wedding ceremony too, and are perfect for dancing. String quartets are the most sought after form of music entertainment for wedding ceremonies, but a jazz quartet or piano & vocalist can perform equally as beautifully due to the range of instruments to choose from. Jazz bands can have anywhere from two musicians and go up to a 20-piece big band. No matter the size, jazz bands are extremely flexible so they can perform a slow romantic ballad for a couples first dance, and lively swinging big band numbers for dancing. Its more
difficult for string quartets and other instrument ensembles to play such a variety. Requests are difficult for them, if not impossible since every note must be written down on the page. There is no such difficulty with a jazz band. Another benefit of a jazz band is that a singer can be added to the lineup which adds a whole new dimension to the performance. Couples might want a jazz quartet during cocktail hour and meals, as they can play soft enough to allow for conversation, then add a vocalist for the last few hours of the evening to get everyone on the dancefloor.</p>
