Portishead - DUMMY - Reviewed - Entertainment - Music

One of my favorites or all time. DUMMY by Portishead! From 1994. Their songs are sexy and full of emotion. I cherish the cassette tape I still have from 15 years ago or whenever. I lost the case though!!! Darnnit!!!

1. Mysterons

This song is like great for sex. I would not know about the sex part, but i'm sure there are thousands upon thousands of couples of all genders and shapes and sizes and from every single country who have had sex to this song.

2. Sour Times

I think everybody who still respects their inner 16 year old can't help but love this one.

3. Strangers

They say it takes 2 to tango and I just feel like this song would be great in my Zumba class. Not really, but it grooves bro! It's heavy and metallic and like shake it real slow for me baby.

4. It Could be SweetThis song has great vocals like all the songs do. Kind of like jazz, soul singing. That's what made this group famous anyway! Not the wiki wiki sh@@. The wiki wiki sh@@ helps though. Don't see Andy Smith live unless you like "Insane in the Membrane" mixed with other hiphop. At least that is what I remember when I saw him like 8-10 years ago. Who knows what he is mixing now. Some of that dubstep maybe??!!

5. Wandering Stars

This is like a poem. Check these lyrics out. "Wandering Stars/for who it is reserved/the blackness/the darkness/forever"--and that's just the chorus!! Another song for couples to do the dirty bit with.

6. It's A Fire

This is like a church organ meets soul singer. It's muthaf@@@ing bada@@ or just great heartfelt singing. If church felt this good I would go.

7. Numb

More singing that you just can't get enough of. The track wraps itself around your brain like a pet garden snake and some white girl is holding this snake out to you and smiling crazy like in your face and she is not Latoya Jackson. Who is she?

8. Roads

This song might be for sex to. I don't know. More soul for your ipod.

9. Pedastal

A hypnotic groove with mysterious sounds from all that wiki wiki stuff. Apparently the group applied for a grant to make this album. I don't know how you do that, but it sounds like a great idea for broke musicians everywhere! Maybe that is why they are called Portishead because Portishead is a town they came from in England. Andy Smith, the dj guy, made his own records or maybe even dubplates(Dubplate - a fake record that lasts only maybe 100 plays or more. A one off for a potential record. A test record. Made of lactate. Records or "Wax" in general have outstanding sound quality for bass and beats and the like. But apparently trance with that synth stuff don't sound so hot on dubplates. Some guy who made dubplates told me that when I made one once. Before laptops djs put their songs on dubplates so they could play them out at the clubs on record players. Dubplates are cheaper to make than records.) --- but anyway, Andy Smith put original sounds on some records he made so
he could scratch and wiki wiki it without getting sued. Far out huh? That could be urban legend for all I know.

10. Biscuit

In this one she is singing about sensation and being a slave to it. I'm led to believe it takes two to tango to this one. Maybe you can cry to it and find relief to your depression. I imagine I might have done that in the past when I played this song alone in my room.

11. Glory Box

I don't know what this about, honest. In here she is singing about wanting to be a woman. Too bad she has not met the right guy yet, but hey - all this suffering for a significant other has led to one of the greatest albums of all time!

-----

As a side note, I was looking through some music reviews written on iTunes and noticed that someone said there is a bonus track on the CD version. It is not on the cassette though. I looked.

Listen to it here at iTunes!

Nathan Connolly - News - Business News

Early lifeConnolly sang for a gospel church choir when he was 16, and the experience, he says, is what inspired him to be a musician.I suppose I was always around music, and like any other kid, teenage kid, 12 or 13, I wanted to be a rock star and play guitar. I kind of fucked around with it for a few years and didn really learn much and wasn very good for the first two years, but then I started a band with my cousin and two mates from school and it kind of just went on from there. I started taking it a bit more seriously. I mean, Ie always wanted to play in a band and write music, I just didn realize exactly how much when I first started. Music careerPrior to joining Snow Patrol, Connolly was a member of a band called File Under Easy Listening (or F.U.E.L), who were managed by BBC Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray. The band consisted of Nathan, vocalist Aaron Ditty, Dave Magee and Peter Comfort. Unfortunately, it did not last long; the single "Closure/Dryform" was F.U.E.L.'s first
and only release. While working at the record store HMV in Belfast, Nathan was introduced to the band Snow Patrol. He reluctantly agreed to join, despite the fact that the band had no record deal at the time. He jokingly recalls his mother thinking he "was being kidnapped by rock stars."Connolly became a permanent member of the band near the end of 2002. His recruitment played a large role in shaping the band's new sound. With Nathan as a composer of the band's new material, Snow Patrol garnered a new record deal and released Final Straw in 2003. The album proved to be the band's breakthrough and helped introduce them to a wide audience. In late 2006, he talked about plans to record a solo album, which he said would be "melodic and tuneful". Personal lifeNathan is the long-term boyfriend of Laura Donnelly. He has known her before he joined Snow Patrol. He lives in Crouch End, London, nearby band mate Jonny Quinn. TriviaNathan earned a National Diploma in Popular Music.Nathan is a huge Star Wars fan. He says, "The first toy I ever got as a kid was a Boba Fett action figure. And later my granddad bought me an AT-AT. I'm still obsessed with Star Wars! I collect a lot of Star Wars stuff that I keep partly at my house and some at my parents' house."H
e is an avid U2 fan. In recounting an encounter with Bono, he says, "I waited outside the Europa Hotel all day when I was 16 to get my cassette copy of Zooropa signed by Bono, which he very kindly did. To be on a level that not the same, but close to your heroes is a very bizarre experience." References^ "Ice cool band warms hearts". BBC. 29 March 2004. /5kx9XO83x. Be a Rockstar - Web 2.0 style! - Entertainment

You're a Rockstar, well almost...

Technology, gadgets, internet yadda yadda yadda. I wanna rock! Most musicians spend enough time writing rehearsing and polishing up their material to have any time left for promoting and marketing. The sad truth is unless you've got a huge fan base, you cannot make a buzz in the industry without promotion and marketing. My musician buddies have no idea of the internet music-world that exists outside the rehearsal room. They seem to think that your material will magically get radio play and the fans will crawl out of the woodwork. Thus the need for a quick little marketing primer!

Promoting your band has no real rules. It's whatever works. The bottom line is to build a buzz. A band website is a good idea, but lots of website visitors really means nothing if you don't have a product or a show to announce. Although getting a record deal still seems like a quest for the holy grail, the rules of that game have changed as well.

Create a buzz, build a following, sell product, make an impact so that you have a bargaining chip in a record deal. Actually, now, record deals have changed drastically. Think about it like this - if you are selling your own product on itunes, or napster, snocap, or where ever, why do you need a record deal? You obviously have a completed cd. Old school record deals consisted of a sort a loan of types for recording, studio time, producers, engineers, record pressing, and promotion. If you already have the product, all you need is promo and marketing. This really is called a distribution deal. That is what you are after. You cannot compete with the might of the record industry's distribution network unless you have a lot of money. Their network has been built over several decades and they have the market locked up tight as a drum. You can utilize their resources with a distro deal. Enough about record deals. Back top basics. WHY YOU SHOULD SET GOALS WHEN YOU HAVE M.E. - Health

Why You Should Set Goals When You Have MEby Alex Barton

As human beings we are naturally goal-driven. Our brain needs to have goals in order that we know how to behave. For example, we wouldn't get up in the morning and get the bus, if our goal wasn't to get to work. We wouldn't eat if our goal wasn't to relieve our hunger, we wouldn't clean our shoes if our goal wasn't to get them clean. There is nothing that you do which isn't goal-driven. We need goals in order to function as a human being.

When you have ME you may still have many goals that you want to achieve - like going to work, going for a walk, socialising with friends, but you are frustrated because you can't fulfil this basic function of yours - to obey your brain's desire to fulfil those goals. There are two things you can do however. You can learn to create smaller goals that you can achieve and that you can succeed at to reduce the frustration and you can do what the world's most successful people do - make goals for your future.

Only 3% set goals for their lifeAt Yale University in 1953 a survey showed that only 3% of students set goals for their life. In 1973 when these previous students were reassessed, it was found that these 3% were more successful in every area of their lives than the remaining 97% who had not set goals.

Having ME doesn't stop you making long-term goals, in fact it is imperative that you do so because a lack of a bright vision of the future is a prerequisite for depression and lethargy. Having a goal will help to chase the blues away, give you something positive to focus on, a future to work towards which creates excitement and a supply of healthy, positive chemicals to the body and it also gives you a reason for carrying on when you are at the lowest ebb of your life. It also makes it far more likely that you will recover from ME because once you have a goal, you naturally behave in a way that will take you towards it.

It is a well known fact that the most successful people in the world, like Richard Branson, several presidents of the United States, Olympic athletes, Nelson Mandela, Bill Gates for example, Andre Agassi, all work towards their own goals, planning them, looking at the options, making decisions and above all ACTING, step by step. This is what you have to do in order to get yourself out of the pit of despair and ill-health. Plan for a healthy future and work towards it.

"If you continue to have the same thoughts... you will continue to get the same results. " The saying is that "if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got". Did you know that 99% of your thoughts are the same today as they were yesterday? That means that if you continue to have the same thoughts, and it is your thoughts that dictate your actions, you will continue to get the same results. Einstein's definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Look at your life today and recognise that whatever you are doing and whoever you are doing it with are direct results of the thoughts you have had in the past and the actions you have taken ie what job you did, who you married, what course you did at university etc. In fact, your life now, is the sum of all the thoughts you have ever had in your life up until this moment and the actions you have taken as a result of those thoughts. That is why you need to change your thoughts, which will change your actions, which will ultimately change the result.

Paul Mckenna said that his life changed 10 years ago when he sat down and asked himself - if I continue thinking the way I've always thought, doing what I've always done, I will continue along the course I am on, and where will I be in 5 years time? This thought was so horrifying to him (and he wasn't sick) that he sat down and asked himself what was most important to him and what he wanted out of life. He came up with some goals and in order to achieve those goals he had to change his habits of thinking and acting so far in order to achieve them. Once a radio DJ he is now a world famous hypnotist and millionaire.

This is why your brain needs a goal. A part of the brain called the Reticular Activating System is responsible for filtering information from the outside world into your brain. Two million pieces of information per second are hitting the RAS and the RAS can only filter 126 pieces of information per second into the brain. A massive difference. Therefore it has to decide which information to allow in, and in order to do that it needs to know what it is that you want. For example, if you are interested in Ford Fiestas, it will allow all information about Ford Fiestas that it comes across to enter your brain - if you are pregnant it will allow information about pregnancy into your brain. It can't possibly accept everything. I'm sure you've noticed how when you are pregnant all you see are pregnant women everywhere that you never noticed before, or the fact that everyone else seems to be driving a Ford Fiesta all of a sudden! Therefore, there is no such thing as 'reality'. Real
ity is actually only your own personal perception of the world depending entirely on what is important to you and what you are focusing on. This means that you have to focus on something in order to get it, otherwise you will miss information and opportunities required in order to get what it is you want.

If you want to get well, you need to focus on good health... not sickness

Did you know that race drivers when in a skid are taught never to look at the wall they don't want to crash into, because if they do then the odds are that they will hit it. Which means that if you want to get well you need to focus on good health and not sickness. Remember the saying "Be careful for what you wish for". This is based in fact - it is science and a law of nature that you attract whatever it is that you focus on the most. The RAS accepts what you concentrate on the most and screens out the rest - that means that if you are concentrating on what is wrong with your life it will allow in anything that it sees as being relevant to being wrong in your life, and screen out any information about what is positive in your life.

What does your life look like right now? Is everything fine? Not if you've got M.E. it isn't. So making a goal for your life is what you need. You have to look ahead and create a vision of a healthy future. You have to write that goal down and keep it in the forefront of your mind so that your RAS knows what you are focusing on and feeds in the information that you need.

"Remember that a 1% change of direction every day, adds up to a massive change of direction over a year. You then have to think about all the things you can think of, however bizarre, that you could do to take you forwards towards that wonderful goal and you need to choose some actions that you can begin to take straight away - whether it is trying a new therapy, watching a funny video to keep your mood up, reading another book, walking a few paces etc. They have to be achievable actions but not so easy that it doesn't challenge you to change what you've been doing. At the end of each week assess how you've been doing, reward yourself if you've done well, and decide on actions for the following week. The Dalai Lama said that a journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step - and that is what you are embarking on. Just put one foot in front of the other, then again, and again, and again - and you will succeed. Read your goal regularly to keep it alive for the RAS in your b
rain. Remember that a 1% change of direction every day, adds up to a massive change of direction over a year.

The very act of setting a goal and writing it down will immediately point you in the direction of that goal. It will empower you to know that despite ME you are taking control of your life and it will provide you with a sense of purpose and set you on the journey towards the attainment of your ultimate aspirations. There is always something that you can do to help yourself however severe your ME is, so stop feeling helpless and start taking control.

There is no second cavalry that is going to come over the hill and rescue you - you have to use your own, extremely powerful force, the most amazing weapon that everyone has and few people know how to use to best advantage, and that is your brain. You have to harness the power of your brain to get yourself out of this situation. However sick you are, you are not helpless. You have to tell your brain clearly what it is that you want - in as much detail as possible - and it can then do its job of helping you to achieve it.

Never give up

Good luck with your recovery, and remember that there are many of us out here who have already recovered, so never give up. There is no such thing as failure, only feedback. If you try one thing and it doesn't work, then try another. Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, when asked how he felt about failing to create light for the 700th time said "I haven't failed, I haven't failed at all, I have succeeded in finding 700 different ways in which light doesn't work, so I am 700 ways nearer to my goal of finding out what DOES work".

Find A Job You Enjoy-Be Different! - Careers

Does it seem strange to think of having a job that you may actually enjoy? Shouldn't work be about watching the clock, feeling desperate to go home and counting the seconds until your lunch break or home time? Well no, work is a big part of your life and so you need to enjoy it. After all if you find a job that you enjoy then it really will not feel like work, so you can just have a good time and get paid for it!

No job is probably 100% fun and games, there are always some little blips, but in some ways, if you enjoy your job overall, then you really don't mind these, because you are just enjoying yourself.

But the million dollar question is, how do you find a job that you enjoy? Well this is indeed a very good question! So for a start you need to think about the kind of things that you enjoy. Do you like to meet people, or are you happiest alone? Do you like animals, children, young people, old people, are you into games, music, sport?

Once you have decided on some areas that really interest you, then you should think about the opportunities that are available, but try them out before you opt for a sudden career in music or theatre. Life can often be different when you are doing something 'as a job' so what starts off a passion can end up being pretty dull.

Temping is a good way of testing out different jobs before you embark on a career, since you are under no obligation to stay and if you don't like it, you can get another placement. True, you may not be able to get a temp job as a DJ or film star, but you can often get related jobs, which at least can help you decide if this is the career for you or not. You can also talk to your recruitment agency about different kinds of positions that are available. But you need to try them out and eventually you may find a job that you enjoy, even if you hadn't thought that it would be something that was up your street. So keep an open mind and then just enjoy!

Don't Let Your Wedding Be Ruined - Relationships - Marriage

You think you have all the bases covered. You've reserved the reception hall. You've hired the best band to play for your guests. The photographer and the caterer have been selected. You've even managed to get an appointment at the best salon and with the best hair stylist in town for the morning of your wedding. What could go wrong?

Plenty! Here's a list of 5 things you must do to prevent the second coming of the Titanic on your wedding day!

Bad Food - We've all been to wedding receptions where the food was awful. No one ever tells the bride and groom about it. They don't want to be impolite. So, chances are, if your guests think your food is horrible, you'll never be told. Do not select a caterer by browsing the web, the phone book, or by word-of-mouth. Schedule a tasting with at least 3-5 caterers. Be sure to sample everything on their menu that you intend to order. Bring your parents, friends, fianc - anyone whose opinion you trust. Try to set up these appointments on the same day. Not only will you get a better comparison between wedding vendors, it's just more convenient! By the end of the day, with the input you'll receive from your group, there is little doubt you'll be able to select a caterer all your guests will enjoy.

Live Bands - You're so excited because your favorite band was available to play your wedding reception. You quickly reserved the date and paid your deposit. Nothing to worry about, right? Wrong! Here are just a few reasons why some brides have been given a panic attack just before their nuptials.

1 The band breaks up.

2 Bad weather prevents the band, who played in another town the night before, from getting to the reception in time.

3 The band is involved in an accident on the way to the reception.

4 An illness has struck 1 or more members in the band and they are unable to play.

Although unlikely, each of these have really happened to brides just before the ceremony, so it's a good idea to have a backup plan. Burn some wedding CD's to play in the event something happens to the band at the last minute and you are unable to replace them. Make sure you have access to, or can quickly acquire a stereo or boom box to play the CD's. It may not be as good as a live band or a professional DJ, but you can avoid a calamity and still set a celebratory tone at your wedding reception with some good music.

Photographer - What could go wrong with hiring a photographer? Normally, nothing. However, any photographer will tell you that sometimes they get a bad roll of film from the manufacturer. Even more rare, photographers can even lose film. They're human after all. The point is, whether you hire a professional, a family member, or a friend, film sometimes gets lost or just doesn't come out. You only have one chance to get wedding pictures. Here's a must. Have at least one friend or family member hang around while the photographer takes pictures. Without getting in the photographers way, have them snap their own pictures while everyone is still posed. I know of couples whose only wedding pictures are those that, thankfully, other people took.

Hair Style - What could be better than being able to get an appointment on your wedding day with the best stylist in the city? How about using the same person you have used for years. I'm not saying don't change your hair for your wedding day, but the morning of the most important day of your life is not the time to experiment! If your stylist-to-the-stars says his creation looks exquisite, you may be reluctant to disagree. Whoever your stylist is, discuss with them weeks in advance how you would like your hair done. This will allow plenty of time for you to find that perfect look.

Wedding Toasts - Unless you have experience at public speaking, do not try to wing this. In fact, you may have no intention of making a public toast at your reception, but I have often seen the new bride and groom feel obligated to say something after others have toasted them publicly. If this should happen, you need to be prepared. It doesn't have to be long, but jot down a couple of thoughts on what you might or want to say to your guests. You don't want to draw a blank when the spotlight is on you or ramble on aimlessly looking for words.

In summary, even though you have spent countless hours planning your wedding, give some thought to these worst case scenarios. It's unlikely that you will have to use them all, and hopefully none of them, but anything that helps relieve the stress that comes with planning your wedding is worthwhile. Many wedding disasters have been avoided by taking the time to make a few simple backup plans.

Retreat in Silence - Self Help

An annual retreat comes highly recommended by me and I take them myself. I find that it keeps me freshly inspired and clear about my own goals and successes. Here is how I craft them and please feel free to use my three steps to create one for yourself. It's a truly remarkable experience.

First, I plan ahead. What location will heighten my experience? For me, it's the Oregon Coast. My long time readers know that I am fascinated by oceans and coastlines; perhaps my Midwest youth left me yearning for their scents and physical pull. I've written about the magic of the Hawaiian, Mexican, Caribbean and Jersey shores.

The Oregon coast pries a piece of my heart open and makes me feel alive. Time spent in my mother's assisted-living home teaches me it's vital that we devote time to open our hearts in our fast-paced world. Otherwise, it's quite possible to harden it for good.

If an ocean is not at hand, how else can you open your heart? The laughter of children playing in a swimming pool; being in the presence of the love of your life;; reveling in the glorious natural beauty all around you; seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time. Stimulants are all around you. You can decide what unlocks your soul.

Second, I plan the materials that will support this process. I select books, my journal, a side tablet, books on CD, soft clothing, a favorite blanket and pillow. Now I am ready.

From the time I get in the car, I enjoy creating my own private environment. No radio, news, DJ humor or loud music. There is time elsewhere in my life for this.

I find it fascinating that on the way to my destination, it's fun to enjoy an intriguing book on CD - something pertaining to my current quest. On the way home, I enjoy utter silence. I have no desire for outside influence in any form.

Because I set up the environment to support me, because I am honoring my mind-expanding values, by the time I arrive at the retreat location, I'm totally relaxed. Traffic or weather challenges have no power over my essence. I am in charge.

Third - Prior to reaching my destination, I've picked up weekend essentialssimple foods, beverages and, of course, flowers to brighten my room. The journey doesn't begin now; it began the moment I left my home.

I can enjoy the balance of the weekend as I prefer. Moment by moment, I choose whether to walk on the beach for hours upon hours, journal for entire day, read passages that have special meaning to me here and now, or finally get to that book that's been calling to me.

The side tablet is for anything that consumes my mind yet doesn't belong in my journallists of items, business ideas. I believe it important to have that side tablet for anything that distracts me from enjoying the moments I am creating.

The results speak for themselves: tranquility, keen insights, and a clear focus on what you consider most important. I urge you to schedule a silent retreat in any form, even if it's for an afternoon. There is nothing like it to gain perspective and release anything that does not honor your existence. Inspire yourself. Schedule it today. Let me know how it goes.

Enjoy your discoveries.

Being a Laptop DJ - Entertainment

What DJ wants to spend the whole night searching boxes of records or rows of Cd's in order to find that one requested song that you know you have, but seems to have disappeared, yes misplaced once again. Multiply that by 10 or 20 times a night along with searching Individual records or CD jackets for songs to keep the dance floor packed and your audience entertained and you have a night of frustration, along with the fact that your not spending your time reaching and Interacting with the audience and dancers. If this reminds you of your last few DJ gigs then read on because there is a much better and easier way.

Early in my career I dealt with 45's and albums. Crates upon Crates of discs that I lugged to and from the van. Most of the albums had only one song on it that I would be using. Many discs I had not used for months. You've got to have them all because after all tonight might be the night that somebody requests that one song on that long forgotten disc. I have backaches to this day just thinking about it.

Finally about two years ago I decided that there had to be a better way. Well certainly Cd's had made my life easier but a few thousand of these can be quite a hefty load in and by itself. My next move and the smartest one that I've made, not that I've made many, is the day that I decided to be a Laptop DJ. My nights became fun again and I never looked back or should I say I could finally look forward, towards the crowd, no more hiding my face in boxes of dusty old records.

Being A laptop DJ, It was now possible to "carry" hundreds of songs on my laptops 160 gig hard drive. Only weighing about 7 pounds the laptop made it possible to get rid of two CD decks, 6 or 7 boxes of crates, use a less bulky mixing board and gave me Instant access to any song needed in about 10 to 15 seconds. I used an inexpensive DJ software program called OTSDJ. This allowed me to be able to "pick and click" "Drag and drop" song titles into a play list. I could instantly add DJ Drops, Sound Effects, Beats, Intros and DJ Samples in between the songs. This allowed me to make announcements or to Interact with the audience and if I needed a break the show went on as I had programed. Being a laptop DJ allowed me to finally be able to spend the time getting the dance crowd moving, creating excitement and entertaining, instead of hanging my head down searching for those most numerous requests that every DJ gets. You can even program a a few seconds of dead space between song
s so that you can make announcements. How about programming the wedding music so that you don't need to stand on stage for a whole hour and a half playing background music. There are so many ways that being a laptop DJ will help you through the night.

Today I have a lot more fun DJ'ing. My back hurts a lot less from not lugging tons of DJ equipment and songs and because I'm more in tune with the audience and interacting with them, I seem to get more work. Along with the songs I can use different voices in the mix. I do this by creating DJ Drop Voice overs in my studio and adding special effects to create a sweeper, just like you'd hear on the radio. Inserting them between songs means I can take a break and go out into the crowd to take requests or take a much needed bathroom break at the other end of the hall. The DJ talk continues in between songs and the crowd loves it. The club owners see it as more professional. No more skipping records or discs that refuse to play. My life as a Laptop DJ continues to be the best move I've ever made.

Now if your into intricate mixing techniques then this might not work for you. It's not a fix all for every type of music. But if your like me and the main things is to keep the dance floor filled and no dead space between songs, then a decent DJ laptop and quality Software Program might be what you need to set you free. It takes a little time to set it up and to load all the songs but after your done with that DJ'ing is a breeze. Get a few props, dance on your speakers, take your wireless Mic and DJ from any part of the room. Your audience will be partying with you, not wondering where the excitement is.

DJ Equipment - Choosing The Right Gear - Entertainment - Music

For any new-comer to the DJ scene and industry, selecting and finding the right DJ equipment can be an incredibly daunting task. With so many brand, models and feature sets, its a jungle out there! I hope that the following bit of info will be of use to you!

The first and most important thing one needs to assess is application are you going to be using the equipment purely for home or studio use, as a bedroom DJ or hobbyist, or are you planning to hit the road and try out mobile DJing? Obviously the latter will require somewhat tougher, more durable equipment. In the DJ world, durability, equals price! If you want to go mobile, be sure to also budget for flight cases and storage equipment. These items, often overlooked, are invaluable in protecting and prolonging the life of your equipment.

The second thing you want to assess is of course, your budget. You need to decide what amount you want to spend, and then assess what falls within your price bracket. You may find yourself either expanding or minimizing this budget. Once you have this figure in mind, create a shortlist of potential products.

Once you have created your shortlist, assess the brands and their popularity. Avoid new or unknown brands. The equipment you are buying is electronic, and thus needs a good service agent reputation. Have a look at what sells best, speak to people, get an idea of how that particular brand ranks for the particular product (ie: they may be popular for CD players, but not for mixers).

Finally, and this is the fun part find a reputable dealer and buy it! Dont go for the cheapest store try finding a middle ground, a sales agent you feel comfortable with and that you trust, and make your purchase. Be sure to clarify guarantee and refund policies before-hand as well.

Get home, take it out the box, enjoy! These are your new toys look after them and have fun!

Be quirky for their 30th - Shopping - Gifts

So, they're saying adios to their 20s and you're helping them? You want them to have a great time and you want to get them the best 30th birthday gifts ever! You want to see your friend or relative laugh so hard that they cry and wake up feeling happy and refreshed the next day, having had a brilliant 30th birthday party. The real question is: how do you make it a quirky, memorable and fun day?

You'll need a camera to get plenty of photos of everyone having fun, some tasty drinks and some yummy food. Don't forget a DJ too, even if that turns out to be more of a CD skivvy than a disk jockey. Whatever else you plan, such as games or events will be a plus!

If you've got some extra money it can be great to hire a performer such as a magician or a living statue. They can bring some extra life to the party and entertain the guests but they can also help you to propose a toast to the birthday person or bring in the birthday cake.

Surprise parties

There's a tradition of surprise parties. You all know the deal, there's all the planning ahead, deception and subterfuge. You tell their friends to come along and you decorate the space you've chosen together. You keep the party a secret until the second that the birthday person comes in the door. Then, you all shout 'Surprise!' and give them the fright (and delight) of their life!

It's comforting and flattering to know that your friends and family love you enough to throw you a surprise party and it's the effort involved which is the real gift, although, all the real 30th birthday gifts do matter too.

Planning the space, decorations, food and music and getting in enough beer or wine to make the party memories a little bit blurry the next day are what truly take thought. For a really quirky party idea you could throw a surprise fancy dress ball, a football themed party or something else that will make your friend or relative grin.

All of that effort will be appreciated by the person whose birthday you're celebrating and there's really only one rule to keep in mind. The birthday boy or girl isn't allowed to clear up the morning after!

Adventure awaits

A person's 30th birthday comes but once a life time and as they reach the day, they may look back at all the fun they had in their 20s and fear that it's a departure. 20 year olds are not the same as they used to be.

Two generations ago most people wed in their early 20s (sometimes even younger) and they had families by the time they were thirty. These days' people are choosing to marry later, often having fun, studying during their 20s and only just starting their careers.

The prospect of leaving behind fun, education and possibly even partying can worry a 30 year old but it needn't because age 30 is the start of a decade traditionally filled with adventure. Many 30 years olds choose to go on adventure holidays and learn new skills.

They might take up skiing, wind surfing or even try their hand at learning to play the guitar. There's just as much out there to enjoy in your 30s as there was in your 20s. Only now you have the experience and wisdom to back up your drive and energy.

When you're considering 30th birthday gifts why not look in to experience days and see if there are any adventure experiences, such as sailboat racing, a flying lesson or skydiving that your friend or relative might fancy.

30th birthday gifts

It's important to consider 30th birthday gifts carefully because they're going to be remembered for the rest of the person's life. Turning 30 should be fun and memorable and some gifts could even help your friend or family member to recall their birthday.

There are quite a few 30th birthday gifts which actually say 30 on them. Personalised presents such as wine and champagne bottles, for example, make superb 30th birthday gifts. The champagne and wine bottles have specially printed labels featuring the age and name of the person they're intended for and they can be used as rustic candle holders long after the wine has been drank.

How to Jazz Up Your Wedding Reception with a Live Band - Entertainment - Music

Live wedding music, whatever the genre or format, is an important feature of a successful wedding reception. Live bands are generally more appreciated by guests than DJ music because they create a personal, energetic atmosphere. If you want your reception to be upbeat, fun and involved, a jazz band is your best bet. Why Jazz? When choosing wedding entertainment, most couples want to create an exciting party atmosphere so their guests can dance all night long to popular songs. Professional bands will even learn a song for your wedding dance, so dont be afraid to request music that is of special significance to you. Rock and heavy metal bands have a harder edge, whereas jazz music is an easier listening style thats guaranteed to please all your guests and not make people feel uncomfortable. Finding a BandCreating a fun and lively atmosphere is one of the most important steps in making a wedding reception memorable and unique. Smooth jazz bands set the tone and should be selec
ted with great care. The most professional music acts get booked up well in advance, so plan ahead and dont leave it too late. Whether you prefer jazz bands, swing ensembles, pop bands, RnB or country music bands, choosing a type of music that suits your tastes as a couple is crucial. The internet is a good place to start, as most of the best bands have a website so you can find one that suits your taste and budget. Ask around family and friends to see if they know any good bands. They may know someone personally, or may have attended a wedding recently that had a great band.Live Band vs DJLive bands arguably make weddings more personal that a DJ. Having an ensemble of professional, talented, well presented musicians up on stage displaying their of music makes an impressive visual impact. So much more exciting than a wedding DJ blaring out music from a speaker so your guests can barely hear themselves think. Live bands tend to make a wedding more sophisticated and give the n
ight a strong sense of flow, because they direct the crowds attention and provide a sense of formality. It is the band leaders job to make sure everything runs to your run sheet.

How to pick the Perfect Wedding Music for Weddings - Entertainment - Music

Whilst planning your wedding try not to forget just how important the wedding entertainment is. This can quite literally make or break your day. For example, whilst the place settings, invitations and dress are all perfect, if you have a terrible wedding DJ then this will be the last thing your guests remember. Or, if you leave your guests unattended and getting bored for 2 hours whilst photographs are being taken it won't create the best impression... entertainment for a wedding is extremely important.

Music for a wedding comes in many different styles and genres. For example, you may hire cover bands, wedding bands, tribute bands, party bands, jazz bands, and mariachi bands... any kind of live music bands are available and happy to perform at weddings. The only thing to decide is the style and genre you personally like. After all, it is your wedding day and so you should have the most input into choosing a band to hire.

However, it is also worth remembering that you will have all age groups at a wedding, from nephews and nieces to grandparents, and you should ideally consider them in your wedding music plans also as it would be unfair to have them feeling left out.

As a rule, you can't go wrong with a good covers band that performs songs from the 1960s to present day. Wedding bands that do this are more often than not able to keep your dance floor full all night. This will depend on the band you choose though.

In order to pick a good quality live music band you should always hire them from a reputable entertainment agency. These agencies will have pre-checked the bands for quality and reliability meaning you has one less thing to worry about.

So, when you hire a band, think about you, your guests, booking a party band from a reliable source and the atmosphere you wish to create.

Don't forget as well that in the afternoon during the photographs you can keep your guests entertained with caricaturists, magicians, fire performers or jugglers.

If you set the tone early in the day with some great wedding entertainment you will find that this carries through to the evening and puts your guest in the right mood to celebrate your big day!

For further no-obligation, free helpful advices when booking your entertainment feel free to contact Warble Entertainment Agency ()

How to Reduce Stress Concerning Wedding Music - Entertainment - Music

Do you feel stressed at the thought of organizing wedding music for a date that is drawing closer every day? There are undoubtedly many arrangements that you have to make, but the music you choose for your wedding is extremely important. Not only do you need to select it well but you also need to communicate your requirements to your wedding band, master or ceremony and others so that they can do what is required of them.

It is not surprising at all that you are feeling a lot of pressure because there are so many different things that you have to do, all of them within certain timeframes. This should give you the biggest clue about how to reduce stress. Make sure that you plan things well in advance so that you can pick and choose your wedding music at leisure. You should organize everything months before the wedding so that you can completely cross it off your list of things to do. Your band, DJ or church organist or choir, as the case may be, will be very glad to get the information well in advance so that they can make the necessary arrangements. You can check in on them occasionally in order to assure yourself that everything is proceeding smoothly, but you do not need to worry about this subject any more.

You might also be worried about whether your musical selection will sound well. This is certainly something to be concerned about because your guests will definitely be expecting to hear some beautiful music when they come to your wedding. Also, you will convey a lot about yourself through the songs you play. Get help from an experienced person to find out where all you will need music. There are plenty of websites and blogs that will give you excellent inputs about the popular musical choices for weddings. You can then rest easy on this count.

Another source of worry is the wedding band. Most wedding bands are quite professional and reliable because they too have to maintain their reputation in the business. However, you should have a contract in place with the band so that there is no question of them backing out at a later date or refusing to do any particular thing they have already committed to doing. You could include a clause in the contract that they will provide a replacement band just in case there is an unavoidable reason for them not being able to perform. The same applies to the DJ who has been hired to perform at the reception.

It is definitely worth being systematic while making arrangements for all aspects the wedding and not just for the music. You will find that this reduces the need for too much work and you will also be certain that everything will run exactly according to your plan. There will therefore be no scope for any last minute and unwelcome surprises. You can then focus on getting beautiful for your big day.

How to Choose the Best Wedding Photographer - Relationships - Marriage

Congratulations, youre engaged! Finding your perfect match is one of the most important decisions of your life, so the hard part must be over, right? Wrong! Be prepared, because the next year (or so) of your life will be dominated by planning the biggest celebration of your life. Youll need to find the perfect venue, caterer, DJ, rings, florist, invitations, registry, honeymoon, dresses and the list goes on and on. But all of that will just be a passing memory if you dont properly document the day by finding the best wedding photographer for your personal style. Because after all, whats the point of having the perfect wedding if you cant remember every last detail perfectly? Furthermore, not everyone will be able to make the wedding, so you need to capture the best wedding photos to share with those that cannot attend.

Wedding photography is a heck of a lot more complicated than just snapping pictures. Ive heard many stories of couples hiring a cheap wedding photographer and ending up with not so amazing wedding pictures. The last thing that you want to do is hire a budget wedding photographer (or even worse an inexperienced friend). The best wedding photography requires a degree in photography and years of experience. For example, there are countless professional wedding photographers in Philadelphia, but how many of them actually have degrees or various awards for their work? This is the first question that you should ask. Next, you must choose the photography style that interests you the most.

Photojournalistic Wedding Photography is certainly one of todays most popular styles of wedding photography. When you hire a photojournalistic wedding photographer, you can expect photos that truly tell the story of your wedding day. The pictures will capture moments in a way that will remind you of the many emotions of the day, from the nerves before the wedding ceremony to the battle during the bouquet toss. The main idea here is that the wedding unfolds on its own, without the photographer directing many shots. This means that youll end up with mostly candid wedding photos, though the photographer will usually still direct certain shots (such as family portraits).

Traditional Wedding Photography focuses on a more directed and formal approach, meaning that many photos will be posed and organized. Sometimes brides only care about these formal wedding pictures, and not as much about artistic wedding photography. The benefit of this approach is that you will have very formal wedding pictures to put around your house, but less of the candid moments that occur on their own. Usually it is best to include traditional wedding photos, but perhaps not as the only photography technique.

Artistic wedding photography entails a more obscure point of view by using odd lenses and Photoshop techniques to create very artsy wedding photos. For example, the use of fish eye lenses or odd angles. Sometimes these pictures are the favorites, but typically this should only be used with good taste and not as the central theme of the wedding.

If youre looking for wedding photographer in Philadelphia, I highly recommend using Bartlett Pair Photography. This husband and wife wedding photography team is very well respected in the Philadelphia wedding photography community, having been voted the best wedding photographer in Philadelphia by Philly Hot List, a contest with over 200 photographers. Bartlett Pair Photography is also very well respected amongst New Jersey wedding photographers.

How To Pick The Correct Wedding Band - Relationships

Choosing the correct wedding band is very often a difficult task. What type of band do I want? How do you know exactly what type of band your guests want? There are so many questions that need to be answered. You're going to have to come up with the answers to these questions yourself. The both of you should discuss what you want and come to a final decision.

The first thing you want to do is decide what type of band you want. A string quartet or a DJ? To some this is a very simple questions. To other this is a much more difficult question. The choice is yours to make, and this is the first choice you need to make.

When you've decided what type of band you want playing, it's time to pick the music. Do you want a soft and gentle string quartet or a raw hip-hop DJ? Very often people shout out: 'I'd never go with a DJ!'. This is good. The process of elimination can be a great tool to use when picking a band.

You personal taste in music should in fact make a difference when choosing the type of music. You have to like the music, it's your wedding. What about the guests? Shouldn't I think of them? Yes, you most certainly should. Just don't obsess with it. You need to like the music at your own wedding, so think about yourself as well. Picking a band that's very general is a perfectly viable tactic.

Choosing the one. Occasionally when you listen to a band you just know that this is the band you want. And other times you have to listen to many. Take your time. There's no need to hurry. If you find the process frightening, bring a friend. It can be allot of fun to have a friend nearby, while you're choosing your wedding band. It's often helpful to have a friend by your side as well. It can be great to have more people nearby to discuss it, since not everyone likes the same type of music.

Is there an overall best band? Not at all. Often times you'll end up with a few that you like, then you're going to have to pick one. This process can be just as tough as the previous one.

The important thing is that you like the band, and that the band can play your song. It would be a terrible feeling to dance your first dance as a married couple with a band that you don't like and can't play your song. Choosing a wedding band doesn't have to be scary at all. Try to look at is an adventure. Make it fun!

How To Choose The Perfect Wedding DJ And Stay Within Budget - Entertainment - Music

For many couples, a big concern while planning their wedding is the budget. A wedding can seem to burn a hole in your pocket and even more so if you hire some entertainment for your wedding reception. However, there is always a way to hire a good DJ and still be within your wedding budget. Read on and I'll tell you how.

The first thing you need to know when you're hiring a wedding DJ is that you don't have to hire the most expensive DJ around to get the best entertainment for your reception. However, if you opt to go for the cheapest DJ you can find, you might be disappointed in the quality conferred. So here I have some tips on selecting the right DJ for your wedding.

Choosing The Perfect Wedding DJ

When choosing a wedding DJ there are a few things to consider. Among them is of course the cost, the DJ's playing style, personality, and so on. First of all, you should decide on your budget for the wedding DJ. Stick to your budget so you can search for DJs within this price range.Once you have a list of DJs you're interested in, you should make an appointment to interview them so you can decide better. Make sure you think of everything that you want and need for the reception and write it down on paper. Whether it is the kind of music that you want or don't want to be played or even the kind of mood that you want for your reception, you should write it all down. You should also ask them if they have a contract for you to sign. If they do, it should list down all that the DJ will do and bring for you to the reception.

Also ask your DJ candidates about their performance style and what they can do for your wedding reception. After all, it is your special day and the atmosphere has to be special too. One thing people often don't ask during the interview is whether or not the person they're interviewing is the actual DJ who will be performing. This is important because sometimes DJs will send their representatives instead of meeting you themselves.Remember to ask if emceeing is part of the deal because some DJs just don't emcee and you wouldn't want to rush and search for a last minute emcee during the reception do you? By following these tips I'm sure you'll be able to select the perfect DJ for your wedding reception. Good luck!

Top 10 tips to a budget-friendly wedding - Relationships - Marriage

While you want your wedding to be one of the most memorable days of your life, you don't want to spend the rest of the marriage paying for it. If you're planning on walking up the aisle anytime soon, follow this no-fuss guide to saving and start your married life stress-free. First things first...

...Work out a budget (and stick to it!)

When it comes to tying the knot, the only thing you really need to pay for is the marriage licence - everything else is up for discussion.

Sit down with your husband or wife-to-be and think about what you both want from the day. How do you want it to look? What feel are you going for? Keep in mind how much you want to spend and how much you can realistically afford.

Remember, the tiny (and costly) details that can seem so important often go unnoticed by guests. It's the overall atmosphere that you're looking to achieve. Use the internet to gauge a rough idea of costs, and once you've arrived at a budget - stick to it!

Top 10 tips to a budget-friendly wedding

1) Maximise your savings

The first thing you'll want to do is free up as much cash as possible to pay for the wedding. You could be wasting hundreds of pounds a year by paying too much for certain services.

For example, do you have the right savings account? Switching to a higher-interest account will earn you more on your savings, making it quicker to reach your wedding budget.

Less accessible but with generally better interest is a cash ISA account. Other ways you could free up cash to turn into savings include changing to a lower-interest credit card, switching gas and electricity supplier, replacing an expensive loan with a cheaper one, or saving money on home insurance, car insurance or life insurance.

All these potential extra savings could go towards your big day or honeymoon.

2) Prune the guest list

Look at the guest list. Don't feel you have to invite anyone you haven't spoken to in years or give singletons a plus one.

3) Bag a bargain dress

Keep an eye out for wedding and bridesmaid dresses on the high street or online. Discount sales can prove fruitful and as the wedding dress will only be worn once, you could even look at renting a second hand number.

4) Tie the knot on a cheap date

Carefully consider the wedding date. Does it really have to be on a Saturday at the height of summer? Winter months, weeknights and Fridays or Sundays can work out a lot cheaper.

5) DIY invitations

If you're a whizz on the computer or have a talent for calligraphy, why not make your own invitations? The DIY route could save you a bundle.

6) Use your friends

Do you know someone who's an amazing cook, photographer or DJ? If so, ask if they'd like to be a vital part of your special day. They may do it for love, or at least give you mate's rates.

7) Flowers of romance

Buy flowers that are in season to help keep costs down. Maybe decorate the church with candles rather than flowers - a much cheaper option.

8) Get me to the church on time

Cars are another budget-busting cost. If you have a friend with a grand set of wheels, ask if they'll do the honours.

9) Food and drink

This is the biggest cost of a wedding. A buffet can be more budget-friendly, and as for the bubbly, Cava makes a cheap and tasty alternative to Champagne. Serve it later in the evening and no one will know the difference!

10) The honeymoon

Honeymoons can be seriously expensive. These days, the most competitive deals can be found online, so get trawling for the best honeymoon packages. And don't forget to get your travel insurance online as well - likely to be much cheaper than if bought on the high street.

Find cheap dj equipment - Entertainment - Music

By Sachin K. Airan

If you would like to start a job as a DJ or just moonlight as one on the side there are a few things that you need to bear in mind before you head out to get DJ equipment. This is because DJ gear is not a cheap purchase naturally given that electronics are a high budget purchase, however, apropos what the DJ equipment could cost you there are inexpensive options. By finding the best place to get your DJ equipment you can simply streamline your budget so that you can purchase more than just some pieces. To start, when it comes to DJ equipment it is a sensible idea to stay with names that are industry leaders if you want sound quality that is trustworthy. [**] just because you make a decision to purchase name items does not mean that you have got to pay brand prices when it comes time to test out and get your DJ gear. There are plenty of wholesalers and resellers that can offer you great brands at a much lower ticket price due to exclusive deals with the sellers. This is the
first step in finding great costs on DJ hardware. Second, you should always head online to compare and contrast different packages of DJ equipment because it is the simplest way to compare packages without feeling as if you are being pressured to make a purchase. Truth be told, it is too easy to get suckered into a deal that is not really a deal once you're looking at the products that you want. Occasionally in heat of the moment people get so happy about a certain line of products that they end up paying much more than they should have in the 1st place. However, when you are shopping on the net for DJ equipment you do not have to fret about this occurring to you. A smart shopper heads online to look for retailers that offer the stuff they need at a low cost. When they find the products that they need they then head to an honest to goodness shop to take a look at the items and ensure that the sound quality and details are as great as they sound. At about that point since th
ey already have an idea of how cheap the product is online it is much tougher to get carried away and make a large ticket purchase. Thus, after ensuring that the product you viewed online is worthwhile by seeing it in real life, your only task is to revisit the site and make your final purchase. Agree with it or not, following this process will help you save hundreds of pounds when it comes to your final DJ gear purchase which in the longer term is enough to pay for many further pieces of appliances of well. This makes it well worth your time to fully check out your options before making any giant purchases of DJ hardware.

The guest's are welcomed with a traditional Romanian drink prepared especially for the cold season - a shot of Romanian "water of fire" boiled with pepper will increase the interest in the delicious mouth-watering traditional dishes prepared for the Halloween party. The Master of Ceremony, one of Dracula's many subjects, will introduce the guests to the programme of the evening making sure every one will meet his fate!

The first event you'll enjoy is performed by the Transylvanian Knights. The "Witch Trial" will reveal the medieval rituals of judgment for a witch testing the courage of the guests.
