DJ Equipment - Choosing The Right Gear - Entertainment - Music

For any new-comer to the DJ scene and industry, selecting and finding the right DJ equipment can be an incredibly daunting task. With so many brand, models and feature sets, its a jungle out there! I hope that the following bit of info will be of use to you!

The first and most important thing one needs to assess is application are you going to be using the equipment purely for home or studio use, as a bedroom DJ or hobbyist, or are you planning to hit the road and try out mobile DJing? Obviously the latter will require somewhat tougher, more durable equipment. In the DJ world, durability, equals price! If you want to go mobile, be sure to also budget for flight cases and storage equipment. These items, often overlooked, are invaluable in protecting and prolonging the life of your equipment.

The second thing you want to assess is of course, your budget. You need to decide what amount you want to spend, and then assess what falls within your price bracket. You may find yourself either expanding or minimizing this budget. Once you have this figure in mind, create a shortlist of potential products.

Once you have created your shortlist, assess the brands and their popularity. Avoid new or unknown brands. The equipment you are buying is electronic, and thus needs a good service agent reputation. Have a look at what sells best, speak to people, get an idea of how that particular brand ranks for the particular product (ie: they may be popular for CD players, but not for mixers).

Finally, and this is the fun part find a reputable dealer and buy it! Dont go for the cheapest store try finding a middle ground, a sales agent you feel comfortable with and that you trust, and make your purchase. Be sure to clarify guarantee and refund policies before-hand as well.

Get home, take it out the box, enjoy! These are your new toys look after them and have fun!
