Learn How to DJ Mix Like a Pro

DJing has become a musical art form in its own right. If you want to learn how to DJ professionally there is a lot to learn and you will want to refer to some of the resources mentioned later in this article. However if you just want to learn the basics of spinning and mixing your own tunes then this article will get you on your way to learn how to DJ mix like a Pro.

Lets begin with the definition of a DJ or "Disk Jockey". The original meaning of DJ is someone who selects music and plays it for an audience. The DJ may perform on the radio, on TV, at a party, at a Rave, in a club or today even in a stadium setting with thousands of fans watching. Originally this was done with vinyl records on a turntable but today it is done with all sorts of media either alone or in various combinations including:

Vinyl Records on multiple turntables
CD players
MP3 players
iPod/iphone
Laptop computers controlling DJ mixing Software

How to DJ Mix:

A typical DJ setup today consists two sound sources such as two turntables and a mixer. The DJ can monitor one record on a headphone while the other record is playing so he/she can set it up to begin playing at a specific point when the other record stops.

The mixer has a fader switch that allows the DJ to smoothly transition between the two decks and to control the various sound elements such as volume, EQ, Bass,Treble etc. A basic system will just have a simple mixer and two "Platters" as the record turntables are known.

CD based systems will have a pair of CD Decks instead of turntables and a mixer. In addition these units typically have whats called a "Jog wheel" that emulates a vinyl record deck. This can be used to control the music and can be run forward and backward to get a "scratching" effect. With the advent of MP3 players and the iPod music player it is common to see these music sources included in the mixer units.

An ipod dock is becoming commonly available in many models of dj equipment. Typically there would be two decks a mixer and an iPod deck allowing the DJ to play tunes from the ipod & the decks or to record his performances to the ipod itself.

Learn How to DJ:

More sophisticated DJ units known as "software controllers" connect to a laptop computer via a fast USB MIDI interface that is running specialized DJ software. The music is stored on the laptop & the controls on the mixer/deck unit control the software & thus the music. These units typically have "platters" with actual vinyl records that give the DJ the tactile feel of a vinyl record with the advantages of digital control. There are many manufacturers of complete DJ Systems. One of my favorites is Numark. They provide a full range of different types of DJ equipment including:

dj in a box
iBattlePack
Total Computer DJ in a Box
Mixdeck
Mixtrack
Ns7

Some of the common techniques & terminology used by the DJ include:

Scratching
Cueing
Looping
Virtual needle drops
BPM
Beat Matching

There are a number of DJ software packages available that can be used by a variety of different DJ systems. They include:

Serato Itch
Serato Scratch Live
Numark Cue
Virtual DJ
Traktor
Mix meister

I have provided a link below that will show you the different types of DJ equipment available. The cost of DJ equipment varies greatly depending on the type and quality you are after, it can range anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars. You can learn how to DJ mix like a pro.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

Exclusive Tips On How To Become A Top DJ

With the overwhelming success of the MTV's Jersey Shore and an evolution of partying like never before, DJ's are in high demand; so much that the demand far outweighs the supply of good DJ's.

If you want to know how to become a DJ (which is short for Disc jockey), you'll come to find that the most difficult task will be buying your own equipment. It won't be difficult for any reason other than DJ equipment is expensive; and to be a good DJ, you'll need good equipment.

Good DJ'ing equipment is known to cost well in the thousands; mainly because you have to buy many different pieces of equipment. If you're on a budget, you may want to mix and match components of different qualities and price ranges.

Probably the most expensive piece of equipment that you'll need to buy will be a mixer. Sound mixers vary from make and model. Their price depends heavily on their features and quality. Sounds mixers range from a few hundred to a few thousand do
llars. If you're new to the DJ'ing business, I recommend that you only spend as little as possible. It's often thought that the more expensive the mixer the better but often the cheaper mixers work just as well.

It's best to wait until you get some cash flowing in before you start spending thousands on pieces of equipment. This is because you don't know how business will be. To get started and save some money, you'll want to check out some big names in mixing and audio equipment like Aiwa, Numark, Gemini & Akai. They are known to produce some good quality DJ'ing equipment.

After The Mixer, You Need A

After the mixer you'll need a quality turntable. This can be a daunting task as there are many different kinds of turntables to choose from. You need to decide whether you want to go traditional or new school with your DJ'ing. If you are into vinyl, then you should go with a traditional DJ turntable. If consider yourself a "new school" DJ, you'll find it a lot easier to get started. Being able to use MP3's, you'll have a wide selection of turntables, that often resemble the traditional ones, to choose from.
In general, turntables tend to be more expensive than plain players, but there are some good quality ones available for just under $400. There is even a choice to buy a direct drive turntable, but you'll have to spend a little more money for one of those.

Most DJs prefer turntables over plain players because they play records faster and there's no lag. Players are a lot cheaper than turntables but come with less features that you may need to keep the crowd jumping.

The best DJs are the ones that live through the music and turntables. Those are the ones who like to scratch and spin records. You'll probably never see a top DJ use a player only because there's no skill needed. It just puts out sound like your basic CD or DVD player.

If you're new to DJ'ing, you should not spend too much on equipment; and one item you'll be able to save some cash on are speakers. You'll need speakers for live events. In the beginning, you can rent speaker
s for events but if you want to save money in the long run, you'll need to invest in some. The price of speakers depends on the brand name and their output. Some small woofer speakers can cost less than $100.

DJ In a Box Packages Save Money!!

If you are new to DJ'ing, you might want to consider buying what's known as a DJ pack. These packages come with everything you'll need to start DJ'ing.

For the record, using cheap DJ equipment is only recommended for new DJs. When you start getting gigs and make some money, you should consider buying more advanced equipment. It's not buying at that point but investing in you; the business.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

Top Dj Equipment and Set List Resources

A Mobile DJ is an entertainer that travels to locations to provide entertainment for a specific event. Where will you see a Mobile DJ? You'll see a Mobile DJ providing entertainment for Birthday Parties, Sweet 16's, Bar-Bat Mitzvahs, Weddings, Class Reunions, Graduation Parties, Corporate Parties, etc.

Mobile DJ's (somewhat of an oxymoron before the turn of the 21st century) weren't so mobile. You would see 2 large turntables, a big mixer, big amplifier, big speakers, huge heavy crates full of 78's, lots of wires, and just too much stuff and not easily mobile. Although Big Club DJ's and some "old school" DJ's still love spinning on turntables, it's just not efficient for a typical Event DJ. As technology gets smaller and more efficient, DJ'ing equipment is becoming much easier to transport, set-up, and operate.

The DJ's that use the larger turntable systems look and sound amazing while beat mixing but you won't see many of them DJ'ing smaller events that may just require some background music. A kid with an iPod, with a good playlist, and speakers can probably provide decent songs while a big turntable mixing system is just overkill. A good mobile DJ with the right equipment can be very profitable and successful at these events and can even begin building a reputable DJ business. As the business builds, and gigs begin to accumulate, it's important to have DJ equipment that is reliable, easy to set-up, and effective.

When looking for reliable equipment as a Mobile DJ, it's important to look for "name" brands. Even with name brands, a DJ has a choice between lower quality-lower prices, higher-quality, higher-prices. For MP3 and CD Players, names like Gemini and American Audio are cheaper "name" brands but they are lower in quality than Denon or Pioneer. Numark, previously a mid-level quality company has been reaching new technology (check out Newmarks, NS7FX) that is beginning to compete with the big boys.

Here are some of the most popular Dual CD/MP3 Players with example-averaged prices being used by DJ's: Gemini CDMP-6000 ($399.95), Gemini CDX-2400 Rackmount ($170.00), American Audio CK 1000 Table Top Dual ($399.00), American Audio Velocity Professional Dual ($599.00), Numark CD Mix-1 Dual (199.00), Numark CDN22 Rack Mount Dual CD Player (149.00), Denon DN-D6000 Dual CD MP3 Player ($850.00), Pioneer CMX-3000 Dual Rackmount CD Player ($1,000).

You can obviously see a price difference but you will experience a noticeable difference in quality between a cd controller selling for $200 as opposed to the Pioneer CMX for a grand.

Some Mobile DJ's have even decided to make their set-up even more mobile by doing away with CD's and purchasing MP3 Players that have external hard drive or iPod connections. I run all my parties with MP3's no CD's. Although I have a Denon 4500 CD player in my system, it is only used if someone has cd they want me to play.

Here are some of the most popular MP3 players with example averaged prices. Numark's IDJ Mixing Console for iPod ($160.00), Numark's IDJ2 DJ Console for the IPod and External Hard Drive connections ($399.00), Numark's D2 Director Mass Storage Player and Manager, Denon DN-HD2500 Hard Disk Media ($599.00), Pioneer MEP-7000 Professional Media Player with CD Decks ($1400).

Some of these units can be used as controllers for popular Laptop Mixing Software like Traktor, Virtual DJ, PCDC, and Serato Scratch. There are popular controllers like the Vestax VCI-100MV Mixvibes Edition DJ Controller that is specifically designed to control laptop software. Numark's NS7 DJ ($1300.00) is getting some big attention from Serato users.

If DJ'ing on a laptop, consider using that laptop solely for DJ'ing. Other programs or files on the laptop can slow the necessary processing speed.

Once a Mobile DJ has a player, now a good mixer has to be considered. Again, there are good name brands with lower quality-lower prices and good name brands with higher quality-higher prices. Behringer is a dependable brand on the lower end. Consider the Behringer DX626 Pro Mixer ($100.00), Vestax PMC-280 4 Channel DJ Mixer With Digital Effects ($499.00), Denon DN-X1100 4 Channel DJ Mixer ($700.00), or the Pioneer DJM-800 Professional Mixer ($1,700.00). A Mobile DJ can't go wrong with any of these selections but the pricier mixers do offer more features like effects, more mic inputs, talk over, etc.

Once a Player is selected, and a Mixer is selected, all that's left are some good powerful speakers. The best type of speakers a mobile DJ can use is Active/Powered Speakers. Passive speakers would require an amplifier or a powered mixer with more weight added to the rig. A DJ can run an XLR cable out of the mixers, plug directly into the powered speakers, plug the speakers in, and voile, sound!

There are a few decent companies that I could suggest. Here are a few products: Behringer Eurolive B208D Active PA ($180.00), American Audio XSP-10A Powered Speaker ($200.00). Here are the companies that I highly recommend: Mackie, JBL, and RCF. Mackie SRM450 v2 Active PA ($500.00), Mackie SRM350 v2 Active, JBL EON515 450 Watt 15" Powered ($800.00), JBL PRX535 3 Way 15" ($1000.00), RCF ART312A or RCFART315A Powered Speakers 15" ($1100.00).

A Mobile DJ should have a pretty simple Set-up. At this point we have discussed a Media Player (CD/MP3 or only MP3), Mixer, and Powered Speakers. This is all the equipment that is necessary for Mobile DJ.

A good case with a sturdy rack should be considered as well ($200-$400). The Player and Mixer will be screwed down on the top, and in the front of the rack you'll have the dual cd decks (if a cd player is purchased) and a power strip to plug everything in. Now the rig is; 2 speakers, the case with all the components all safe and secured, a bag with wires (xlr cables, rca cables, etc.), and speaker poles.

Now all you'll need is music and set lists. Besides learning how the equipment works, this is the hardest part of DJ'ing. Good set lists and great music is what separates good DJs from bad DJs no matter how expensive or elaborate their equipment is. Djs who have been entertaining for a long time have learned from experience what songs work for specific sets.

Where do new DJs or Intermediate DJs go to learn set-mixes that work? A website has been developed for Event/Mobile DJs to give DJs immediate access to Set lists for all types of parties; Weddings, Birthdays, Kids, Sweet 16's, Graduations, and great mixes for popular dance music, updated monthly. It can also be a resource site for DJ's to go and get all types of helpful tips, how-to's, and information, song programming techniques, and event forms.

Being a mobile DJ is fun, exciting, and very profitable! As technology gets smaller and easier to use, more and more people will be trying to master DJ'ing. Technology is only half of the skill. The other half of being a great Mobile DJ is knowing your music and being confident in your set lists. Having Good Equipment and great Musical programming will make a great Mobile DJ in the 21st century. The right training could really help. You can get some great dj tricks and tips at DJ Masterminds and get your musical set lists and dj equipment ideas at MixesThatWork

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

The Evolution Of Dance Music

Dance music has been doing the waves in not only the clubs but everywhere in the world, endorsed by the clubbers and a Dance DJ's haunt. DJs all over the globe have been experimenting and adding up to the evolution of dance music, rather than adding their own unique and quintessential elements in it. Dance music started with the main genres of House music, Trance music, Garage music, and Drum & Bass music, to nurture and grow into various sub genres. Now it is difficult to differentiate, but each of them was created with a solidarity and uniqueness of its own. Rendering it into various other forms and blending with them to give a completely new experience. When coupled with various other forms such as R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap, etc and with vocals, dance music is taken to another level.

The history of House music tells us that from the beginning it has been a dance DJ's favourite, since its emergence in Chicago. While the garage music developed in New York, especially to render the House with a more soulful, smooth and raw touch. Garage music became equally popular in the UK, where it also known as UKG. However, its reputation suffered due to the atrocious violence, which was associated with it over a time. Nonetheless, it was revived and the new skool' garage music came into being.

Garage music became immensely popular. This became evident with the number of sub genres of it that came into existence during the 1990s. Some of them that include this sub genre are the Speed garage, the 2-step, the new dark swing, the Dubstep, the Breakstep, the Grime, and the Bassline. Few would not be acquainted with Trance music. It is needless to mention that some of the Djs like Dj Tiesto and Dj Paul Van Dyk have been doing a remarkable job with their dance music. Trance music also arose from the House music, but it also had its inspirations from Ambient, Industrial, and Electronic forms of music. The earliest trance music has been from the acid house movement, of which the most conspicuous were What Time Is Love?', 3 a.m. Eternal', Kylie said Trance' and Last Train To Transcentral'. Trance music too developed into a multitude of genres. The important ones include Classic Trance, Acid Trance, Progressive Trance and Uplifting Trance (also known as Anthem Trance o
r Epic Trance or Stadium Trance), then there are others such as the Euro Trance, Vocal Trance, Ambient Trance, Dream Trance, Goa Trance and Psychedelic Trance.

Indeed, with such great numbers of offshoots it can be easily figured out how much dance music has evolved in the present times. Similarly, we have another form of electronic dance music, called the Drum & Bass Music. It took the centre stage in the middle of the 1990s. It envelops breakbeats, bass, infra bass, and sub bass elements. Originally, it had its beginning in Bristol and London in UK, from where it spread to gain grounds across the sea.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

Who Is The Best DJ In The World?

The standard of technology in DJ equipment has improved immeasurably in recent years. Modern technology has included the clarity and quality of the sound DJ's can deliver to their audience. The standard of computer software and the functions that can be performed on a computer have also seen a dramatic improvement to the results that can be achieved by top DJ's. For these reasons it has never been a better time for DJ's.

Many have touted this as the golden age for DJ's. So who are the jewels in the crown of this golden age? It is of course not possible to have a completely objective assessment of which is the best but it is possible to take into consideration the amount of money the DJ makes and use votes from magazine polls to compile a list. So with no real scientific explanation here are the top DJ's in the world at the moment.

Armin van Buuren

Dutch born Armin van Buuren has experienced great popularity as the interest in Trance music rapidly grows. He has described himself as a nerdy kid and tells stories of how he used to spend every penny he earned on his paper round on music. He says he used to make mix tapes for his friends until he listened to music his uncle had created using a computer. Stunned by the sounds he heard he soon invested in a computer and set about mixing, sampling and creating his own tunes.

Despite some successf
ul early work Armin was worried that the music may not pay off so studied a degree in law. In 2003 he and two friends created their own music label which offers 'everything an artist could want'. He plays a weekly residence called Armada at the Amnesia club in Ibiza.
Tiesto

Another Dutch DJ Tiesto has achieved numerous landmark accomplishments for a DJ and throughout his career he has actively raised the bar for DJ's. He was the first DJ in the world to sell out a stadium of 25,000 people two nights in a row. He has performed at the opening ceremony of the Athens Olympics and his remix of silence, written by Delerium featuring Sarah Machlaughlan, was the first house music song to be played on daytime radio in the US.

He has become a household name in numerous parts of the world and consistently reaches the top end of the charts with the tunes he releases. A pioneer of trance music he is also heavily influenced by techno and house. He has said that 'the only way forward for a DJ is to play a diverse mix of sounds'. Recently he was nominated for a Grammy for his Elements of Life album.

Paul Van Dyk

Born in eastern Berlin Paul van Dyk spent his formative years tapping into forbidd
en western radio stations and listening to the music they offered. Paul left East Berlin shortly before the fall of the wall and went to live with his aunt in Hamburg. After he had completed school he moved back to East Berlin and performed his first gig in 1991. Since then he has achieved an almost unbelievable list of awards and achievements that includes first place in DJ magazine's top 100 DJs in 2005 and 2006 he was also Americas favourite DJ in 2004 and 2005.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

Why You Need The Best Dj Equipment Speakers & How To Get 60% Off Retail Prices On The Biggest Names

Dj Equipment Speakers can make the difference! Exactly how very important may be getting one of the best dj equipment speakers for a(starting) dj? Let me tell you that I have been a dj for roughly 6 years nowadays along with among the list of first matters I discovered has been that no matter how great you might be as a dj, it does not matter if you certainly not take advantage of the perfect good quality dj equipment speakers you will get your hands on.

My genre of music is towards goa trance and hard house but I always relax in mixing hip hop and r& b. While in the six years I have done plenty of gigs. From mid large audiences to beginning in friend`s houses, garages in addition to rooms and so on. At the end of any of these gigs 1 point had been evidently tight connected towards the performance from the night`s gig I did. And, that was naturally the excellence in the sound system.

Regardless if I spinned one
of the best set I ever did in my life, if the dj equipment speakers I was performing my tricks on that night sounded similar to empty cans of oil being spat at by a couple of hilbillies after cheweing the wrong sort of chewing tobacco then my dj set is going to sound similarly. As I am a perfectionist I have to pronounce that any of those nights I was not happy to now and again being right disapointed concerning it. Very soon I determined I needed to have my own dj equipment speakers and begun to save dollars.
Needless to say, should you be playing a huge gig as a dj then one could assume a respectable sound system to be at hand. However, if you are organising your own parties, arrange your own karaoke parties or are offering your own dj services to third parties then it is of great importance to possess the ability to use a good sounding dj speakers and dj equipment you will get.

When you as being a dj consider fellow dj`s as people like Tijs Verwest(Dj Tiesto) Armin van Buuren or Ferry Corsten you will see that indeed, they only work with the best sound systems available.

I understand as no other that the big difference between Tiesto, Armin, Ferry and the most of us in dj land is not the only one of quality but the one of budget too. Those guy have made millions and therefor has lots of money to spend on the best materials, right?

What about the rest of us? I imagine I've found the answer to that one. . . The internet is the solution for
the best deals on dj equipment speakers. The web. . . Who would have thought about that?

Back in the point in time when I got my set of dj equipment speakers there was no such thing as buying via internet as which are the availability of it now. In this moment, this has manufactured mad competition between the providers resulting in?

Correct! High rivalry typically results in Insane discount prices! And, I have found a site online where I personally purchased a complete new set plus turntables in addition to all other dj equipment you'll be able to consider and many products I bought had about 60% bargain on them! I saved top dollar.

Dj equipment speakers has a lot more than 200 internet pages with the biggest models on dj equipment speakers, cables, turntables and more.

Check out Dj Equipment Speakers on to purchase your following set of dj sound system or karaoke set speakers with 60% off t
he retail prices.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

From Radio to Online Guitar Lessons

I can remember when it was the summer of 2000, more than 11 years ago at the moment of writing. The radio was on, but on such a volume that I could actually ignore it. But I probably would have ignored it anyway since I just received my guitar. Can't recall the brand or type but it was a rather cheap instrument. I had a little bit of experience. With a little bit I mean that I had 2 or 3 guitar lessons at the age of 8. So I could barely read the tabs.

One moment I was fully focused on my guitar but a moment later I totally forgot all about the guitar. Even forgot that I was trying to make music. Because this was when I first heard Californication by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The DJ announced a new single by the band from Los Angeles. The first notes reached my ears and I was estatic. I just sat there with the guitar on my lap, enjoying every single second of the 5 minutes the song.

Once the song ended I regretted that I stopped my guitar course. But I also became motivated, very motivated. Because the only thing I could think of at that moment was that I have to master my instrument. I wanted to be able to play this song so badly that must have practiced for the entire afternoon. Although I have to admit, it was worth it. For a couple of hours I was a rockstar in my head atleast. My roommates thought otherwise unfortunately.

About 9 to 10 years went by without playing my guitar. But then, approximately 2 years ago, I was driving my car. It was May, a very beautiful day in Spring. The sun shone for the first time in the past months and I have to admit, I felt good. And it only would get better, because the DJ on the radio anounced Californication by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Somehow I hadn't heard it for a while, probably 3 years. The only thing I knew for sure was that I needed my guitar.

That's when I turned the car around, drove to my local guitar shop and picked up a new guitar. Went home as fast as I could and started playing. Unfortunately I didn't know how anymore. So after I ordered some Online Guitar Lessons, since I don't have time to schedule a guitar teacher in my spare time, I started playing again. Till the day of today I still feel like a rockstar when I pick up my guitar and think of Californication.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

How To Become An Internet Radio Dj

A fun job where you can connect with thousands of people and entertain for your living is to be a disc jockey, also known as a DJ. It is a dream job for people who love music, people, and entertainment. There are many different approaches for the type of show and audience you want to connect to. You have a radio program that discusses politics, religion, life's situations, or music for example. You need pizzazz, a "radio voice," and a few other components to become a disc jockey. Here are some tips on how to become a DJ on a radio station on the Internet.

One of the most important components for this job is knowledge. You have to be an expert on the topic your show is about. If you are a DJ for a music station, you should know as much as possible about music. Most stations are genre specific, so you should know all the top hits, musicians, and style of music. Radio stations on the Internet are both genre specific and mixed. Usually there are links to a type of genre on one site. If you are the DJ for all channels on the site, you will have to immerse yourself in music knowledge. You can only be a great and well liked DJ if you are playing the type of music that people want to hear on the station.

After you have gained knowledge about the topic you want to DJ about, you will need the necessary materials and technology. For the Internet, it will be very important that you have a fast connection if you are working from home and streaming with a station online. The host will have a minimum connection speed and bandwidth that you will need to stream properly without interruptions. You will also need a microphone and a laptop or computer with a lot of memory and speed. If you are hosting an Internet radio music program that already has a playlist, you will need to familiarize yourself with the music they want to play. Others will require that you develop your own playlist. The playlist you compile should include top hits from the music genre you are broadcasting.

Once you have the right technology and an awesome playlist, you will need to find the Internet Radio station that you want to DJ for. Do you want to be part of a company that is streaming talk shows or music? What genre of music are you the most knowledgeable about? You will need to do a lot of research about the radio station, the type of music or talk show they stream, and if you would be a good fit or not. Once you have selected the Internet radio station you want to work with, you can send a resume, sample playlists, and samples of your voice.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

You should be able to speak clearly and precisely even if you are not familiar with the topic.

While attending college or broadcasting school you may be able to sign up for an internship, which will help you learn how to become a DJ. Ask your school about paid and unpaid internship opportunities. You could be closer
to becoming a DJ with a radio internship on your resume.

Also, consider working part time at local parties as a DJ to provide you with more opportunities to practice working in front of people instead of in a radio broadcast booth. Becoming a DJ is hard work and you will have to be resilient if you find that radio stations do not accept you as an intern or if the internship is not exactly what you expected. There is always an opportunity to learn if you keep an open mind.

Learning how to become a DJ is not only about introducing music. You must also be able to read commercials, give news reports including weather and traffic, and conduct interviews. So speaking to people and in front of groups will help improve your speaking abilities. This is where all those speech classes will come in handy. In addition to taking classes, you can also record radio programs and then practice repeating the spoken parts to advance your speaking abilities. Do this many times until you can read the entire segment without oral inconsistencies or long pauses. Perform in front of friends and family, and also try to get small gigs at local weddings, house parties, small bars, and other holiday related events.

Another great tip on how to become a DJ is to go where radio personalities are making public appearances such as a grand opening of a new store, a charity drive or any other local event. Be an observer and hang out by the radio personality
s tent or broadcasting station, and when he is not on the air ask the DJ a few questions about how he became a DJ. Ask if you can shadow him sometime, or just sit next to him and watch and listen while he is at that event. Carry a business card or other paperwork with your contact information as well. You may be surprised when you get a phone call or email inviting you to tour the radio station and talk to the radio DJs while they are working live on the air.

Whatever you do to learn how to become a DJ, be persistent, learn as much as you can and then keep on learning, be passionate about it, and of course, become a student at a local accredited broadcasting school to ensure a future of success.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

What's the secret to sounding great as a DJ on online radio?

The arrival of radio on the internet has meant that many more stations are now being heard. Competition is in some respects fierce.

Content, as they say, is king. As an online radio presenter, you've got to be the best of the best. But how do the top radio presenters sound so natural and yet interesting. What's their secret? Is it just talent?

The answer is hard work and yes a bit of talent. Behind the scenes preparation has to be done. Preparation behind the scenes is the key. Chris Evans, the UK's Radio 2 national breakfast DJ, believes every link needs has to have essentials such as a beginning, a middle and an end.

But preparing links in a middle of the show is hard. Imagine a ticking clock, a microphone staring at you and your station manager on the other end of his radio.

So here's the key. Write down links before the show is going out. They don't have to be fully scripted but can just be a few ad lib notes. This is much easier to do then making when something up on the spot.

If you are stuck for link ideas, just look around you. Talk about your personal life in general. This could be about going to school or busy roads near you. But what content do you put into your links? Look around you, talk about personal life. Observation will help produce really good content for links.

The secret to sounding like a pro as an online radio DJ, preparation.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

iTunes Organizer, Program that Automatically Organizes iTunes Library

iTunes organizer, how to organizer your iTunes, what the problem is with all of the programs out there that are supposed to help you automatically organize your iTunes library.

So I am a DJ, which means my iTunes library always a mess and I can't stand that.

So at some point I had to start looking for different programs that were going to help me automatically organize my iTunes library because I just don't have enough time in the day to do this.

I set out looking for programs one afternoon and you know how that goes. You type one wrong word into google and pretty soon you are looking at the most expensive programs, with the least amount of help. So I started trying different programs to see if I could find one that was going do a few things.

Here is what I wanted the iTunes Organizer to do.

I wanted it to automatically delete duplicate songs, and I wanted it to delete the worst copy of the two. As a DJ this is important because you need to bring your best music!

I wanted the iTunes organizer to automatically fill in missing album information. Again, this is very important for me, because I have to be able to find music that people request and fast!

I wanted the iTunes organizer to automatically name songs that I uploaded and were miss labeled "Track" instead of the real song name! I could spend days looking for the right song when they are all called "Track".

I wanted a few other things but I would have settled for one program that did all of these things no questions asked!

Thankfully after a few days of trial and error with some of the programs that said they did all of that, but actually didn't do any of that. I found a program that did ev
erything I wanted my iTunes organizer to do!

Learn more about the program here: /iTunes_Organizer

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

Skeuomorphic User Interface Design: What is skeuomorphic user interface design?

What is skeuomorphic user interface design?

By definition a skeuomorph is a derivative object that is designed in such a way as to retain the structure of the original object. As such skeuomorphs tend to feature purely decorative elements that are made to resemble the design or structure of elements that were essential in the original. They can be physical objects but they also have a major role in user interface design, which is getting more and more pronounced with the so-called "post-PC" devices such as the iPad. Apple is very much at the forefront of the Skeuomorphic user interface design approach having made QuickTime 4.0 resemble an actual consumer electronics product over a decade ago complete with a brushed metal look. A storied example from the time was the implementation of a dial to adjust volume just like on a Walkman, for example. This works well when holding a Walkman in the palm of your hand but looses practicality when using a mouse on a GUI. Another great example of skeuomorphic user interface desig
n is with the virtual keyboard of the iPad which features bumps on the F and J keys. These bumps obviously can't be felt when fingering an iPad so have no practical purpose.

What are examples of successful skeuomorphic UI design?

The resurgence of skeuomorphic user interface design as a UI design paradigm owes a lot to the introduction of the iPhone. Native apps such as Notes and Voice recorder all sport skeuomorphic UI designs with the former resembling a notepad and the latter looking like a vintage microphone with an old-school volume dial rather than LED volume meters that are used in modern audio recording equipment. This skeuomorphic user interface design approach is proving to be particularly en vogue amongst audio applications. Jonas Eriksson's 76 Synthesizer features knobs and audio cords that can be inserted into polished brass slots. Just a screenshot of the user interface design makes you want to start playing around with it and lets you know you'll be manipulating sounds. Korg's iMS-20 iPad application (a recreation of the (physical) MS-20 synthesizer) is the same but even includes a musical keyboard and modulation wheel. Admittedly the user interface design is busy and might be overwh
elming for the average user but musicians who have used a similar synthesizer should be able to pick up the iPad app and create right away. The same can't be said about traditional audio workstations where they would have to learn what and where their options are. The same can be said of the Djay app which looks like an actual mixing deck.

What are some pitfalls of skeuomorphic user interface design?

Skeuomorphic user interface designs work well with multi-touch interfaces of tablets which take advantage of our evolution as a species by working intuitively. On the desktop where the input devices are invariably the mouse (or trackpad of some kind) paired with a keyboard the situation becomes a bit more problematic. Previously I mentioned how a volume dial on a computer screen just simply doesn't work as well as on a Walkman in the palm of your hand. The latest iteration of Mac OS X, Lion, features a couple controversial skeuomorphic user interface designs in the shape of the new iCal and Address Book applications. According to Kaishinlab there are 5 major things to look out for when creating skeuomorphic user interface designs:

Potential False Affordance: Since skeuomorphic UI designs mimic real world objects users will be inclined to expect that they work accordingly. The new Address Book in Lion looks like an actual book but you can't go through your contacts by turning pages. This discrepancy is bound to cause frustration. This is the UI design version of Tennis' unforced error.
Visual Noise: Filling a user interface design with more and more detail might make it more visually interesting but this all adds to the traffic or noise of a UI design. In the end it is just more user interface design elements crying out for attention. The faux stitching in iCal has no added value and even if it weren't there users would not all of a sudden not realize that they are dealing with a calendar app!
Functional Limitations: Creating skeuomorphic user interface designs imposes limits due to the fact that you are trying to mimic a distinct look. The new Address Book does away with the practical three-pane user interface design for a new UI design that shows less information and is more cumbersome to use simply because the user interface design team at Apple thought their app would look cuter if it looked like an actual book.
User Disorientation & Alienation: This is tied to potential false affordance as users who are used to a standard way of operating a user interface design have to come to grips with alien interactions.

In other words skeuomorphic user interface design is a growing trend but UI designers need to make sure that aesthetics do not trump usability.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

Players are a lot cheaper than turntables but come with less features that you may need to keep
the crowd jumping.

In the beginning, you can rent speakers for events but if you want to save money in the long run, you'll need to invest in some.

For the record, usin
g cheap DJ equipment is only recommended for new DJs.

How to Find Cheap Dj Equipment

The greatest portion of the price of DJ equipment comes from the sound mixers. Sound mixers have an abundance of features with prices that are as low as 200 all the way up to prices as high as 2000. If you are a DJ who must work with a limited budget, you should consider a small sound mixer, which ranges in price from 200 up to 500. The small mixers work just as well as the larger ones and are perfect for DJs who are just starting out in the business. You can even purchase well-known name brands such as Aiwa, Akai, Gemini and Numark in affordable economy size.

DJs that prefer to remix their music tend to like turntables as opposed to MP3, DVD or CD players. However, turntables come at a higher price than players do. Gemini makes a quality turntable at the affordable price of just around 400. Even though direct drive turntables tend to be higher priced that the ones that are belt driven, many DJs prefer them because they can play records faster with no time lag.

Players are a great deal more affordable than turntables, but they do not allow back spinning or scratching of records. Players simply provide an output of sound such as on a DVD or CD and facilitates no scope for alteration. If you are a DJ who plans to play only original records, then you should go for the less expensive option of a player.
If you are a Disc Jockey who would like to lower your expense on DJ equipment, you should shop around for your speakers. The cost of speakers generally depends on their output. You can choose low wattage speakers to save money. Some smaller woofer-type speakers are available and can output stereophonic sound for the affordable price of around 20 each.

Another great way to lower the cost of your DJ equipment expenses is to purchase it all in bulk as a package. These packages typically include all to the basic components and required peripherals such as headphones, which are free in most cases. Discounts are usually available for the DJ that chooses to buy a package. There are generally some great packages available for mixers.

Although the use of cheaper equipment may take a toll on the output of music, but a talented DJ can make up for it with a little creativity. Especially if you are uncertain of your future as a DJ and just want to give it
a go to see how you like it, you should consider purchasing cheap DJ equipment.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

A First Class DJ Can Take Your Next Party To A Completely New Level

So, you are going to throw a party, good for you. Of course, you are going to make sure that you have some exceptional food for everybody, and it's going to be at a great location, but what about the music? Are you seriously thinking about playing your own material, if so, we certainly do not hope that your friends and family who will be attending the party don't get too offended. There is nothing like a very popular DJ, which has every type of music that has ever been recorded, to spice up the life of a party and make the atmosphere just that fantastic.

Below you are going to find a few helpful tips for finding a great DJ, and getting them to play at your party. First, not all DJ's are the same. Just like in every other profession, some are much better than other ones. The first thing you want to do is to remember a party or wedding that you went to where the music was out of this world.
Next, all you have to do is ask the people that put on the party or wedding, who they used as a DJ, and if you can have their telephone number. If you have not heard a good DJ at a party recently, you might want to ask around at some of the clubs that you frequent where you like their style of music, if the DJ there knows another good DJ that has the same music.

Who knows, you might get lucky, and be able to book the DJ that works at your favorite club, if they are not scheduled to work that night. In fact, if you happen to offer them enough money, they just might get sick that night and not be able to do their usual gig at that club.

Second, whatever you do, please make sure you plan ahead, especially if your party is going to be on a Friday or Saturday night. On those nights, even the worst DJ's in town are always booked. Third, and this is extremely important, you absolutely must get the right DJ for the type of party that you are having.

N
ot all DJ's are right for all parties, no matter how highly recommended they come. If you are having a conservative type of party, certain DJ's styles are just going to be way over the top for your guest to appreciate. The exact opposite is also true, if your guest are the wild and crazy type, they will want a DJ that gets the party moving, and just as importantly, keeps the action fast and furious throughout the entire night.

As for our last tip about hiring a DJ, please make sure that you fully explain what you expect out of them. You want to tell them what type of music to play, what time to show up, how long they will be playing, and how over the top they should act. If you follow all of the helpful advice about DJ's mentioned above, you can be certain that your next party will be a smashing sensation.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

Significance of DJ equipment

Disk Jockeys aka DJs are renowned worldwide for their music capabilities in night clubs, discos, parties or any musical events. These professionals are known for playing popular conventional songs of various genres in more creative way to add spice and to keep people grooving to their tunes. DJing involves amending beats and base of songs, and at times it also involves clubbing two or more songs to bring more life into parties. DJing requires lot of expertise and other DJ equipment to ensure efficient sound mixing and good sound system along with creativity and understanding crowd behavior.

The most basic DJ gear is efficient sound system, headphones, sound mixers and even turntables nowadays. Turntables have gained significance in the past few years due to the distinctive sound made via scratching. Scratching can make any dull song live and ensure people groove on the floor. Various turntable kinds are available with appreciably distinctive features, though, from all the turntables, direct drive is considered the best turntable. Depending upon how records are rotated and read, turntables are selected by DJ. It is imperative for a DJ to ensure that all his equipments are functioning efficiently before the crowd starts visiting the venue.

Other than Turntables the second most imperative DJ equipment is sound mixer. Sound mixers are specially designed devices that allow DJs to control the tempo of songs by adjusting Bass, Treble, sound control, etc. This device is one of the necessities of DJing. For live music amendments, sound mixers are necessary. CD player, Mp3 players and other equivalent devices can be treated as alternate of DJ Gear but such devices don't allow any amendments and adjustments in the songs. Sound mixers can be attached with various external devices like sound system, headphones and other devices quite conveniently.

No DJ gear can be complete without headphones or headsets. It is one of the most essentials tools for DJs as it helps DJ to evade external nuisance and listen to minor details of the song. DJ headphones usually come with microphones that DJ often uses to make announcements and ask feedbacks from the crowd to keep them involved. Efficient speakers are also essential for every DJ to keep crowd enticed. Speakers should be selected on the basis of the capacity of crowd and room dimensions to ensure sufficient sound in every corner of the venue. Quality of all DJ equipment has to be superior to keep the masses captivated.

It is imperative for a DJ to buy only authentic and reliable sound DJ gear to become a successful DJ. It is not that DJ equipments are only useful for DJs, if a person owns their own club, restaurant, hotels or often organizes such events, DJ equipment is very useful for them as well. It will significantly help them slash their event organizing expenses. There are several companies prevailing in the market that deal in DJ equipments; therefore it is imperative that one should buy DJ gear only from reputed and reliable dealers to ensure superior quality and best deals.

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software

iTunes Organizer, Program that Automatically Organizes iTunes Library

iTunes organizer, how to organizer your iTunes, what the problem is with all of the programs out there that are supposed to help you automatically organize your iTunes library.

Thankfully after a few days of
trial and error with some of the programs that said they did all of that, but actually didn't do any of that. I found a program that did everything I wanted my iTunes organizer to do!

Learn more about the program here: /iTunes_Organizer

iAutoblog the premier autoblogger software
